Devastating news emerged just days ago that Coach Reno is battling CJD, a fatal neurodegenerative disease that typically leads to death in under 14 months. Heartbreaking news about coach Reno. Prayers to the coach and his family.
His final season was like one from a storybook. Wins HYP and Ivy Championships, win against Harvard named national game of the week, earns first League auto bid to the playoffs, beats YSU in maybe the best comeback in this history of the playoffs and plays the eventual national champions to within eight points. All while having his son Dante Reno join him to share the journey as the team’s star QB. Very tragic news indeed, but the way he ended his career while battling this ugly disease couldn’t have been written much better. It would make for an inspiring movie. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.
SOE, absolutely well said. Here’s to seeing you at the Bowl and maybe a road game as well.
Well said, SoE.
This is not how the story of his life should end. But there’s no doubt that he made an indelible impact on the Yale football program. And it appears that he has left the program in good hands, as we approach changing times in college football, the Ivies especially.
May he and his family find peace.
Thank you, Coach — you left the program better than you found it.
Coach Reno and family ,
All of our prayers are with you as fight this horrific disease.
The impact you had on our son, Chandler Henley , captain 2006 Ivy League Champion, still continues today as he continues his coaching career in the NFL.
We are confident that you will attack this fight with this disease with the same courage, tenacity and passion that you personified in your entire coaching career .
Prayers are a powerful weapon for all and we have you and your family covered with ours and many , many more

Tony, thank you so much for what you have done to transform Yale Football to what it is today. You are part of a legacy of Great Yale Football Coaches. Which unto itself is magnificent.
Walter Camp Tad Jones, Carm Cozza and you are mentioned in the same breath. Your legacy is cemented in Yale lore.
That is only a small part of it. The many lives that you have changed in the time that you have been in New Haven is spell bounded.
Time on this planet is short, but Coach in the time that you have put into your life is remarkable. We can only marvel at the genius of it. You are a tremendous dedicated family man, You are a fantastic mentor, a Fearless Leader . You are a man who will be missed by all who have come in contact with you.
Good thoughts to you and your family. 💙
