Yale 34 Brown 22

Lots of positives for today, but I have to focus on the negative because I fear if Yale doesn’t get a handle on it it’s going to cost them a game or two in the the next two weeks. I’m talking of course on penalties. Week after week, and year after year it’s the same story. Why can’t Yale’s coaches instill some discipline in the players? I realize there are benefits in playing loose, but that doesn’t have to mean playing undisciplined. The penalties seem to be mainly coming from the defensive unit. And some are just so stupid. The choreographed sack celebration between #8 Grant and #24 that resulted in a 15 yard penalty was just plain selfish. They need to focus of the good of the team, not in drawing attention to themselves. Reno and McGowen, need to get control of the team!

The problem is, teams get a reputation. Yale may be looked at by officials as a team that likes to go right up to the line, and sometimes over the line, between aggressive and overly aggressive. You never want the officials even unconsciously looking for a reason to throw a flags.

Yale has been the most-penalized team in the Ivy League in 5 of the past 8 seasons. One of the other three seasons, they were second-most penalized. They have never been in “better” half of the league in all 8 seasons.
If Yale has a reputation, it’s more than warranted.
It’s a culture problem.

voy vey you are absolutely correct. What a hideous stat to be a leader in. If they could cut half of those penalties down , it could lead to more victories in a season.

The Yale men’s Ice hockey team just beat Princeton 2-1 in OT. Yale is 2-0 for the 1st time since 2010-2011 season.!! Go Blue!!

What’s up with Coach Reno refusing to do a post-game interview on the field with NESN? Did the sideline reporter kick Reno’s dog–or ask to borrow a kicking tee–at some point in the past?
His son had the decency and patience to give a nice (if not very substantive) interview.

Leave the guy alone. They keep Wii ing are getting better every week with a banged up team and this is what you are concerned with?

They didn’t beat Dartmouth. Penalties had a big role in that loss. I very much doubt they will beat Harvard if they have over 100 yards again in penalties. You might be able to get away with it with teams like Brown, but not likely with great teams like Harvard.

I agree, unless our borderline-psychotic aggression makes the Johnnies flip their wigs, causing H penalties and freaked-out mistakes.

Congratulations to the 3 players being awarded players of the week.
Pitsenberger as the offensive player
Grant as the defensive player
Keeney as the special teams player

Thank You SOE , I know your allowed to have duplicate #’s . One being offensive and a defensive player. After last 2 weeks they could definitely use him. I counted 16 missed tackles last week alone. Horrible.!
Are you going to the Princeton game this weekend.?

No, but I’ll definitely be watching on TV. Haven’t made the Princeton trip since 2017. ESPN+ makes it too easy not to attend road games.

Here’s a thought will The Ivy League add more games to the Leagues schedule for next year. Start the season sooner. So it doesn’t hamstring its members football team. So it will have equal footing with the other FCS teams in the nation.
So the league will be respected by the FCS and its members.!! It’s about DAMN TIME.!!

Question: How does Ivy League compare to typical FCS football programs regarding limits on # of practices before the season starts and whether tackling is not allowed in some of the practices. I had the impression that the Ivies were more safety-conscious (concussions) than other leagues.

I am really loving the theme/design of your weblog. Do you ever run into any browser compatibility issues? A few of my blog readers have complained about my site not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox. Do you have any advice to help fix this issue?
