Yale 16 Dartmouth 17

Litany of pain (heartbreaking Yale looses to Dartmouth last 10 years):

2025 (blew 4th quarter lead)
2024 (blew huge 4th Q lead and cost Yale share of championship)
2021 OT
2019 (humiliating blowout and cost Yale a undefeated season)
2018 (humiliating blowout)
2017 (blew huge lead and ruined undefeated season)
2015 (humiliating blowout)

On a separate subject, after watching Harvard last night and Yale and Dartmouth today, this may have not been the best year to start participating in the FCS playoffs.

One thing that really bothers me is the penalties. Grant got called in the Cornell game for a personal foul which nearly cost Yale the game by leading to a Cornell TD. Today there was another personal foul by Grant which took away an interception and extended a drive that ended in a Dartmouth TD. This time Grant’s penalty arguably did cost Yale the game. Why can’t the coaching staff get a handle on all these penalties? Seems like a perennial problem.

Reno teams seem to get more personal fouls and unnecessary roughness penalties than most teams. Makes me wonder if they have a “reputation” among the officials who may be looking more closely than they do with other teams. It may have started with the taunting and trash talk which Yale seems to be known for.

This was a frustrating loss but frankly after reading the the moderator’s excellent preview yesterday I was expecting Dartmouth to dominate the game with Suanier’s dual threat abilities. Looking at the team and individual statistics the major deficiency for Yale was once again in the number of penalties and the one that stands out was the penalty that negated Kamara’s interception. Overall Yale played well against another talented Dartmouth team. The impressive goal line stand justifies optimism for the defense as we look ahead at rest of the season. The missed extra point was awful but we can’t be certain what the outcome would have been different if Dartmouth would have tied it with their fg and taken the game to overtime.
For now I prefer to look at the positives. After three games we can be confident that we have the best RB (Josh) in the league and also the most spectacular WR (Nico). I don’t think any of us expected the latter. As for Dante, he’s still a work in progress but let’s remember he’s a first year starter and he still hasn’t had the benefit of both Nico and Mason Shipp on the field together for a full game.

Not sure why teams these days cannot play pass defense when you KNOW the opponent HAS to pass the ball. Not just Yale. The Dartmouth defense didn’t put up much resistance on Yale’s last TD drive.

Penalties were bad, but the one on Grant was not a roughing the passer. Referees these days pick and choose how they want to call it, it was a simple hit in the mid section leading with the shoulder. QB just got hit “too hard” I guess. Ezekiel Larry also had a great day, sack with a fumble leading to a score and another sack that put Dartmouth out of field goal range. Yes defense had a meltdown at the end, but as an offense if your defense can hold the opponent to 17 points, you should win the game.

The more things change, the more they stay the same

1971, Dartmouth defeated Yale with a final score of 17–15 in a football game played on October 30.

Game details:
Final Score: Dartmouth 17, Yale 15.
Date: Saturday, October 30, 1971.

Result: Dartmouth’s victory came thanks to a last-minute field goal.

Location: The game was played at Memorial Field in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Game-winning kick: Dartmouth kicker Ted Perry kicked a 28-yard field goal with 35 seconds left to win the game.

Gentlemen; defensive coaches don’t have a clue. 38 seconds to go, and our defenders are not protecting the sidelines. Where are the other players at the linebacker position, because it’s time to give someone else a chance and sit number eight who is out of position for most of the game and had many l arm tackles resulting in missed tackles. However,, number seven is easily leading the team missed tackles. There is still hope. Once our offensive line is set and the offensive coordinator opens up the playbook like he did on the final Drive.

When detailing Reno’s Litany of Pain vs. Dartmouth, don’t stop at 2015.

2014: blows a 10-point halftime lead, giving up 24 points in 2nd half to lose 38-31.
2013: blows a 4-point halftime lead to lose by 7.
2012: the infamous Varga-ineligible / kicking-tee-gate game, blowout loss.

The full history would be comical, if it wasn’t so aggravating.

They rely to much on Pitsenberger, the Offensive Line is weak. No stunts, no pulling of the guards . OC is unimaginative and quite embarrassing. I see Pop Warner football with better play calling.
Frankly the defense has been keeping this team in the games. Be nice if the offense could hold onto the damn ball and finish a series with a score.
The discipline of this team is maddening. Especially in KEY scenarios. Of getting a 1st down or on a big play.!! Couple of plays would have made a huge difference in the outcome of this game.
Here’s to a better result, GO YALE.!!!

Carm’s teams also lacked imagination after the ’67-68 magic of Calvin throwing long TD’s to B.D. I agree with everything else.

…I know you can toss previous results where THE GAME is concerned, but how do the Cantabs look this year? Very strong? I’m trying to hold onto a flicker of hope for a title.

Yale still has more talent than any of the teams they face going forward, except for Harvard, and Reno teams have done well following Dartmouth losses in previous years. I’m cautiously optimistic.

I do think at least letting another QB have some playing time would help and maybe even take some pressure off Dante.

What’s happened to our FR RB from Canada, Kemeni? He played early in the season but ai don’t recall seeing him on the field the last two games.

There is room for hope. The past two losses have been against 2 of the 3 best teams we will play and both of them were on the road. Reno has a way of improving both offense and defense as the season goes on. But Dante needs to play better, hopefully with Nico and Shipp on the field at the same time

Interesting to note that for about a decade, Yale had been scheduled to play Holy Cross on Sept. 18, 2027, as part of their series that is usually Yale’s season-opener that was scheduled through 2028.

I can’t say I’ll be sad to see the HC series end. HC is a great school and opponent, but Yale should not be scheduling a 10+ consecutive years series with any OOC opponent.

That’s a good match-up for Yale with the Patriot League getting harder to schedule due to its expansion. I plan on making the trip in 2027. It’s a nice new stadium. Stony Brook would be another good regional scheduling partner with good facilities. I don’t want to see Yale play in high school quality stadiums.

Hmm it appears like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips and hints for beginner blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.
