Yale 21 Cornell 23

The defense was manhandled again. The offense was inconsistent. At least against HC the offense was pretty good. Today, no one looked good, especially not the kicker.

They all need to take a deep look at themselves. Especially the entire coaching staff.
Offense, was lackluster, out out sync, the center needs to be consistent and get on a defender. Defense , is slow to react to the play. So many things to be addressed.! Get Adu Karama in the mix at running back.!
Utilize your talent , instead of having them on the bench.!

Yale’s offensive play calling so far this season has been too conservative. If they want to run most of the time like they’ve been doing they should just go to the Wishbone. If they want to continue to run their spread offense they need to pass the ball downfield far more often. Yale has very talented receivers. They need to use them. They are far too predictable.

Disappointing that Yale could not take advantage of the miracle like 4th and 20 touchdown. The defense has not made a single play this year to get the other teams offense off the field when it counted. Again today, no consistent pressure on the other teams QB, even in obvious passing situations like 3rd and 10 on the last Cornell drive.

And as bad as Yale played, this was a winnable game. Two missed FG’s another crucial penalty when they could have gone up 21-0. A shanked punt. Sickening.

I think the lack of blitzing shows Yale has been too conservative on both sides of the ball. Part of it might be the large turnover in the coaching staff. Part if it might be arrogance in that they believed they are better than they really are. I think at least the latter is over now.

This year could have marked the return of a Yale football dynasty, but they are in danger of letting that opportunity slip through their fingers. There is still time to right the ship, but they better get it figured out before their next league game in two weeks. They need to run the gauntlet from here.

The appropriate cliche is, “run the table.” “Running the gauntlet” is something else entirely, although it’s like what’s happening to us.

When was the last time , A Yale Football Team started a season 0-3 .Morgan State is no slouch. So far well, Yale is.

Most of our All Ivy talent is back from last year’s championship team but so far they are under performing. We lost a number of quality coaches so like SOE I wonder if this may be a reason for the poor execution on offense and defense. Our receivers were covered like a blanket while the HC and Cornell receivers had plenty of space to catch and run.
They also look like they have done a better job than Yale in strength and conditioning which is not something that can be improved once the season has started.
I will remain optimistic provided Pitzenberger returns at full strength for the remainder of the Ivy games. Has the ability to provide the same kind of offensive spark as a Varga and Dudek.

Especially disappointing that after they managed a comeback they couldn’t hold off Cornell on the last drive. Is it the coaching turnover? Conditioning? A lack of toughness? It just feels like no one has been able to step up and make a play when they need it.

Whenever highly-touted Yale teams would underperform, a friend used to say, “they spent too much time reading their press clippings.” Meaning, they saw all the glowing reviews of their past performances and their high expectations, and then went out and proceeded to not back up those glowing reports.
Sounds like Team 150 has spent too much time reading their press clippings.
Time to put up or shut up. Especially on defense. But, that goes for Ivy OPOY, too.

Maybe the worst thing that could have happened was the offense taking the opening kickoff in the HC game and easily driving down the field for a TD. Maybe they didn’t realize that other teams, unlike Yale, actually make adjustments.

We miss Carm! He was able to coach consecutive championship teams. ‘67-‘69 (without BD and Calvin in ‘69). And, ‘79-‘81. Tony is no Carm

I’m not going to bang on Tony. Three championships in five years speaks for itself. As aggravated as we all are today, let’s evaluate coaching at the end of the season.

I think this is on the players more so than the coaches. The previous two titles were won by senior-heavy teams who did not return many starters the next year, hence the regression. Not the case this year. The core of this team won last year’s title and is not showing signs of being up to the task of defending it.

Seems to me Yale had a critical mass of injured players yesterday. On offense, we were missing Pitsenberger and Pantellis. Peterson is a quality back, but Pitsenberger is even better, IMHO.

On defense, we were playing two freshmen — one from Tennessee and one from Cleveland—- in the sensible backfield together with a sophomore from Texas. Wande seems to be the only veteran among the DBacks.

Yes I’ve noticed 3 of our veteran DB’s were not playing yesterday, Sean Guyton, Brandon Benn, and Dathan Hickey

I was considering beheading and castrating myself, but decided to wait ’til our second Ivy loss to do so.
