Yale Football’s 2023 recruiting class currently has 29 known commitments to date. 247Sports ranks the Bulldogs’ class at #3 in the Ivy League. Here is the breakdown by projected position:
QB- 1
RB-2
WR-5
TE-0
OL-5 (4 Tackles, 1 Guard)
DL-4 (3 Defensive Ends, 1 Defensive Tackle)
LB-5
S-4
CB-2
K/P-1
There are eight prospects that received a 3 Star ranking from 247Sports and five prospects with a 2 Star ranking. Harvard currently has ten 3 Star prospects, while Princeton has nine 3 Star prospects.
Only one commit hails from the Nutmeg State, Quarterback Nolan Grooms. Oddly enough, there are more commits from the state of Arizona than Connecticut.
Josh McKenzie from Bergen Catholic is the highest-rated recruit despite tearing his ACL and missing his senior year of football.
Some of the faster safeties could wind up playing corner and a few of the tackles might transition to guard or center. There still could be room for more recruits especially if we have any members of this class heading off to Choate. Another commitment at defensive tackle would be nice to see in the coming weeks.

Josh McKenzie was recruited to be a DB
Well, at least it appears we did better than Dartmouth.
Does anyone know why Wande Owens didn’t garner any 247Sports stars?
How did Maryland’s offensive player of the year fall between the cracks?
Because he’s ticketed to play defense for us? It’s baffling.
It’s a flawed system, doesn’t matter.
Whether it’s 247Sports or Rivals, their grading system is far from being a reliable predictor of which prep players will become impact players at the Ivy varsity level. Some of our best RBs in recent years were not highly ranked on 247Sports and other 3 stars at various posititions have not achieved the level of success that was anticipated based based on their rankings. The same applies to basketball. Both Makai Mason and Miye Oni were overlooked (thank goodness) by bigger college programs – I believe both were 2 stars.
I may have stumbled on our 29th recruit: Isaac Mitchell, 6’4″, 246 lbs, DE, TE from Salina, KS. He also throws a mean javelin.
L et V . YOU ARE CORRECT. HE COMMITTED TO YALE .
Boy how does harvard do it number 1 in football recruiting and basketball. The recruits they have in both sports coming in no one will have a chance.
A major part of their success is due to a superbly organized effort by groups such as Friends of Harvard Football. Yale has nothing comparable for recruiting. Also, both sports at Harvard have truly outstanding coaches, who can attract top athletes because they know they are going to be on winning teams.
I think Tony Reno did a great job of closing on some top recruits at the end and final rankings will reflect that. Harvard recruited two very good quarterbacks which helped their ranking. Yale is stacked at QB so that doesn’t bother me.
The point about Harvard Friends of Football is well taken. The Yale Football Association should be renamed the Yale Football Football Nostalgia Association. Its primary activity for the last 20 years has been strong arming football alums for dollars to replace what the University used to allocate to the football budget. There are a few guys nationally that help the coaches finding talent(within the rules) and with summer jobs for the players . Unfortunately , too many football alums spend game day in the Kenney Center, rubbing elbows and seeking photo ops with the President and Athletic Director, and don’t even watch the game.
One of the most effective recruiting practices by Friends of Harvard Football is the use of famous alumni. Ted Kennedy was very much involved with this, and Tommy Lee Jones continues to this day, hosting Harvard players at his home, and being available to them.
.
YALE LOST 2 THREE STAR PLAYERS—RON CARR (DUKE ) AND BEN MONTGOMERY ( DARTMOUTH) & A TWO STAR PLAYER— JOHN MONTGOMERY (WOFFORD ) .
Harrington to Wofford.
Ben Montgomery shows on 24/7 composite as still committed to Yale. He is not on Dartmouth’s listed commits. Carr was lost early on when he jumped on the offer list of several major FBS programs, including USC.
Where do you get the information that Montgomery was flipped to Dartmouth?
Frankly, I believe Yale is loaded across the board on offense and the defense needs development and continuity from within. Ideally you bring in great freshmen every year but they do not start because upperclassmen are bigger, stronger and seasoned within the system
On so called “signing day” he was wearing a Dartmouth sweatshirt and the photo caption said he switched from Yale to Dartmouth.
Prep stars are quite sophisticated in terms of deciding which schools they will attend. Alumni have to be very careful regarding their involvement in recruitment. I am skeptical whether famous Harvard alums like Tommy Lee Jones host recruits; that would seem like a no, no.
I tend to think the bottom line on recruitment (assuming financial packages are essentially similar) has less to do with successful alums and more to do with successful programs led by talented coaches.
He doesn’t host recruits – he hosts Harvard players and the word gets around.
who advises Monty? Yale acceptance rate = 6%, Wofford = 71%
WTF
Perhaps Montgomery or Harrington did not get accepted or receive a “likely letter.” Maybe one or both were asked to take a year at Choate (not a bad option, but not ideal for some based on circumstances).
gentlemen; from the frozen tundra formally knowned as the nutmeg state it is difficult to evaluate on paper the incoming freshmen squad members other than to note there is a log jam at the offensive line position and a reverse position at defensive line.
Please don’t get caught up with stars. A lot of guys don’t get stars cause they don’t to the big camps or don’t have the big offers.. Kurt didn’t have any stars. Shofi and Lamar were 2 star guys. Pope and Burke were 2 star guys. These guys are our impact guys. All those guys are better than a lot of the 3 star guys we have seen.
I talked with Kurt’s dad. Kurt got 3 stars from Rivals and I believe offensive player of year. He didn’t report offers to 247. I believe if you don’t tweet or report offers or self promote, you will not have Stars. Was curious if that was the case with Wande. Both from MD. I believe.
Not sure we should focused on stars…

Flawed for sure.
“Well, at least it appears we did better than Dartmouth.”
We usually do. And then they beat us on the field.
It all comes down to coaching who do the players trust, Where still missing a coach that stinks.Do we have any friends of yale football? We need all the help we can get.Coach reno has to make big changes on the defense line has to find players on the roster who are physical and tough. Do we have any thats the question. Also if we do not find players at defense back who can stop the run we will have a long season. Walt Yale Blue.
gentlemen; mr. walt is speakint to the choir about finding defensive linemen and defensive backs who can tackle add linebackers to that category.
