Brown 27 Yale 22

Exactly. Look how far other Ivy League teams have come from the start of the season. With Yale – still field goals instead of touchdowns, multiple interceptions, a shaky offensive line and a deplorable pass defense. We all dread the the next two games – I dread a year looking forward to next year. God help us.

I was talking with a fairly well placed person ( a Yale grad) from the Yale Development Office this week and was asked “How can we help you in soliciting funds from your classmates?” I told her that she could get the football team to win more games. I expected a dismissive answer, but to my surprise she said they hear that a lot. I told her that we couldn’t just keep losing to Harvard every year and she agreed.
So maybe, when it begins to cost them money, the administration will pay some attention to this mess.

Worst coached team ever. Time for Beckett to begin a serious search for a new coach. It’s not going to get any better and it is time to move on. Five years of recruiting and implementing his program is ample to show what he can do and Reno has failed miserably. Not a brasher, just a realist.

Someone in the administration really needs to look into why there have been so many injuries and/or defections over the last 3-4 years.

My son played at Yale a couple of years ago and all the players in his class were miserable because of Reno and his staff. It was very difficult to watch as a parent the drastic change in the passion of the players from when they entered as freshmen to when they finished as seniors. Reno is killing these boys love of the game and shouldn’t be tolerated.

Say goodbye to this staff and this administration… We need something new! 4 years of the best recruiting classes and the freshmen, once again, look like the fastest and strongest kids on the fields.. God help them and not allow them to go through “The Process” with Tony Reno and the fat, wobbly-looking strength coach. I feel bad for the kids. Every time I see their faces, they all look emotionally and physically drained. Tired of seeing it.

Its up to the AD now, which way will the program go? Fire the staff or keep on with the same. Both are hard choices with no quick solution to the teams problems. Firing the staff may energize the players with new hope and purpose while keeping Reno may just drive out the remaining upper classmen. After this poor season, I expect recruiting will take a big hit too. No way Yale keeps Vashel on as Co-DC. Someone has to fall on the sword for this sub-par defense.

While the injuries continue to mount up (I counted six upperclassmen at WR at the beginning of the season), and now Yale is playing freshmen; does anyone actually know of defections?
Junior and senior players are the key to recruiting prospects who visit the campus. I’m sure at Harvard they tell recruits, “Come here! We have superb coaching, and we can guarantee you will be on a winning team that dominates the rest of the league.” What can our guys say?

I do not believe that Tom Beckett has a tough choice to make. Like anyone else in his position, he wants his legacy to be viewed in a positive light. Basketball, hockey and lacrosse have done well and baseball is on the rise under his watch. Among the major men’s sports, only football is in dire straits under inept leadership (Reno). After five years, if the program is not moving in a positive direction, it’s time for a change and without any further delay. And, there can be no doubt that this program is not moving in a positive direction. It’s time for Beckett to suck it up, acknowledge his mistake and move on before it’s too late.

In mentioning programs on the rise, do not overlook mens’ heavyweight crew. Last year we missed a national championship by two seconds.
