Who’s going to be the Captain for the 152 2025 season.?
Josh Pitsenberger, if Grant Jordan has eligibility.I believe offensive player of the year as well. Egrodogbare or Shaber
Gentlemen; Great victory for our blue today in a chilly horseshoe on the River Charles. I for one will miss watching Mr. Pantelis one of our best split ends in memory.
Grant Jordan ended up with 22 passing TD’s on the season, which matches Nolan Grooms mark last year and is tied for 2nd all time in a season at Yale. What makes it even more impressive was Jordan threw only three interceptions. What a great season for Grant Jordan!
And Jordan’s 66.4% completion % ranks 4th all time for a Yale QB in a single season.
Jordan is simply one of the best quarterbacks Yale has ever had and Pantellis is one of the best receivers we have ever had.
Congratulations to the players and coaches for winning the Big Three Championship. Although this team didn’t win an Ivy Championship it beat Harvard, the co-champion and the 17th ranked team in the FCS. Great way to end the season.
Bring him back next year!
He gave us a great final game with absolutely key receptions and amazing grabs. Seven catches for 148 yards, especially impressive after literally being knocked out of the game last week. David, thank you!
Meant to reply to Old Blue’s Pantelis post.
Great win for the Bulldogs! Probably their best all around game or the year. Kamara’s hit was called a penalty because few (no one else) in the IL hits like him! Therefore, it must be “unnecessary roughness” in the IL. On the pass interference penalties, look at the FBS games. Receivers are routinely mauled!
The penalty on Kumara was a bad call. The runner was trying to advance when he tackled him. He was not defenseless.
That was horseshit. Over zealous nanny call. Begs the question of whether every tackle was unnecessary. Defenseless QBs can’t get slung to the turf we get it. But DBs tackling larger backs who are fighting for yards can get them down however they need to. Just a bad call. The officials always get excited in Boston. It’s like the crew just did a game at stonehill and hasn’t seen a crowd before. The man downfield was a crap call too – borderline and immaterial and took six off the board for no reason, just so some ref could show that he knew the rules. The PI was too tight all game and inconsistent at best. One of them was legit awful. The taunting call on pantellis was also dogshit – no offense to handsome Dan. Punishment just didn’t fit the crime. He flipped the ball up, not at the defender. He was celebrating. Let the kids play, nanny ref.
Yes, we have criticized for arm tackles. ThI was not an arm tackle!
Yale has won 3 in a row vs. Harvard, and 6 of the last 8.
A comforting turnaround after losing 14 out of 15 prior to that.
Keep the W’s coming!
Yep, just as Dartmouth has owned Reno, Reno has owned Harvard
Just to remind Dartmouth, without Yale defeating Harvard especially the last 2 years. Dartmouth doesn’t have a championship. Dartmouth is akin to a parasite.
Yep, as the players always say, Dartmouth lives rent free in Reno’s head
Sure they do..? All Big Green is yellow with blue mixed in. Also without a Yale man . Walking in the woods of New Hampshire. Dartmouth wouldn’t even be a thought. Your welcome
56 years later it was great to see Josh Pitsenberger holding onto the ball with 2 hands in the 4th quarter and Tony Reno knowing to obviously put a “hands squad” on the field to receive an onside kick. Yale football has come a long way since Bob Levin’s fumble and Carm Cozza sending linemen out for the onside kick in ‘68. Great effort by the whole team on both sides of the ball.
Bob Levin’s fumble is probably why Meryl Streep broke up with him
There have been only four seasons with two-loss Ivy champs, and two of them were last year and this year. The others were in 1963 (Dartmouth, Princeton) and 1982 (Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn).
Three teams have tied for the title six times, again with two of those occasions in the past two seasons.
Attendance was 27k. I thought it was a sellout. Two years ago attendance was 30k. Is this a capacity issue or a no shows issue.
I know the Yale students had to participate in a lottery to get tickets.
They don’t even give the regular fan a chance
Yale has won each of the last three games against Harvard by five points. 19-14, 23-18, 34-29.
Yale’s recent streak against Harvard is quite different than the previous Harvard streak against Yale. These recent games have been very close. When Harvard was on their streak they were blowing Yale away for the most part.
A win is a win is a win. I believe that a close loss can be just as devastating as a blowout.
Now Yale is in Harvards head. (Harvard) if we did this . We could have done that. Yale needs to be better prepared. Execute ,
This past season with especially with the losses to Dartmouth!! That was Reno’s to bare. Foregoing that field goal was the difference in the game. I felt dread when he did the same thing in the Harvard game.
Columbia was great defensive team that controlled Yale’s play calling. Poor offensive strategy. Throw the ball deep instead of 5 to 15 yard passes. Yale has the athletes . Give them the best chance to win.
The refs gave our Number 12 a tough time on pass interference. Some of them were legit. But there was one instance where he made a play on the ball – as he is supposed to – and knocked it away and they still called it a penalty. I mean, what is he supposed to do? Just let the receiver catch the ball?
Agreed, if Guyton didn’t get hurt last week. That would have been his assignment. Barakate is a special WR. On the par of Pantelis. # 12 Thompson, is going to be a very special player.
Not to mention being out Banks and Webster also not being available.
300 more days till kickoff.
According to Masseyratings.com Yale had the highest strength of schedule in the league this year. Didn’t look like that would be the case when the schedule was released but both Lehigh and CCSU surprised and ended up being conference champions and going to the playoffs.
Correction: Princeton had the highest SOS according to Massey. That was due to them playing a very good Mercer team. Yale was 2nd n SOS.

It sure will be nice to watch The Ivy in this especially Yale.!
The announcers on yesterday’s Harvard-Yale broadcast spent an inordinate amount of time discussing the issue of Ivy Football participation in the playoffs and the pending motion to allow it before the Ivy League presidents. I’ve never heard this issue discussed on an Ivy League broadcast in such depth. Maybe they know something we don’t? I have a feeling this time it might be different. I’m hopeful.
I think playoff participation and an 11th game must go hand in hand. If the Ivies are going to allow an extension of the season on the back end, there is no reason not to start the season earlier and add an 11th game. An 11th game OOC would be crucial to playoff seeding and the possibility of two Ivy teams in the playoffs, one auto bid and one at large. The problem is it makes sense and we can’t have common sense affecting Ivy League sports.
The problem is the 11th game doesn’t contain an equity issue. While football is definitely not a priority we all know that the Ivy League values equity highly.
Something that is way overdue. Needs to be addressed asap. There is no reason not have another game. Let this team along with all the other athletic teams participate in NCAA tournaments.
Most of us have been saying this for years now. Go Bulldogs.!!
By the way, shout out to Nick Conforti. His two FG’s ended up being the difference. I’m sure there was pressure on him, not just with the swirling winds but also the Dartmouth memory. I was extremely happy for him.
Josh Pitsenberger named 152 Football for 2025. Congratulations Captain Josh
Great choice!
Agree. Great choice.
Gentlemen; congratulations to Mr. Pitsenburger a well-deserved and worthy choice.
From his debut performance as a Freshman it was clear Josh would be a star running back for the Elis. Heartiest congratulations on becoming the Yale captain and best wishes for continued success.
BTW. It appears Reno may be the top contender for HC at Rice.
If Reno goes to Rice, he may take one or more of our players with him. I’m especially concerned with Abu’s staying the course at year, particularly after noting that Penn’s star RB Hosley is entering the portal.
Here’s the article. I’d hate to see him go, but it would be a good move for Reno. He’s not getting any younger. His market value is at its peak now.
If Tony takes the Rice job, I hope for his sake he gets a long-term contract b/c it’s likely to be his last HC position. Rice’s enrollment is smaller than Yale’s, and its one of the smallest in FBS football. Likewise the alumni base is small and mostly indifferent to football. Rice’s last winning season was 2014.
Rice paid Its HC just under a million this year. Anybody have an inkling what Yale pays Reno?
My guess would be less than half of that. Plus Texas has no income tax.
Gentlemen; many what if; my two cents Coach Reno most likely has a lifetime commitment Should he choose to remain with our blue squad. If not, the likely choice is the current engineer coach who probably would like to come back to Yale.
Like I said, I hope Reno stays. He’s been an outstanding coach for Yale and is in the process of building a lasting legacy here.
Having said that, if he should decide to pursue greener pastures a leading replacement candidate would be his former OL Coach, Al Netter, who is currently coaching at Stanford.
The only reason to take the Rice job is if you get a huge payday. Rice is a baseball school with little or no hope of ever being good in football. Sure Tony can recruit, but he is recruiting against basically Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth. Not the SEC and the Big Ten.
If he really wants to move on and up, wait for a much better situation.
Reno can coach. Every year his teams improve steadily throughout the season.
He knows how to beat Harvard. I hope he stays.
The last Ivy FB coach to take the Rice job was Jerry Berndt, who had won a couple of Ivy titles at Penn in the early to mid-1980s. He lasted 3 years in Houston before he was let go.
Rice hasn’t had a winning HC since Jess Neeley retired back in the mid-1960s.
The comment that Tony would find recruiting much more challenging is also right on. Rice will scholarship players who aren’t admissible at Yale, but its academic standards still rule out most SEC or Big 12 recruits.
Bottom line, I agree with the comment that Reno would have to have one terrific financial incentive to leave Yale for Rice.
Old Blue – what do you think of Reno encouraging players on the sidelines to trash talk obscenities throughout the game toward opposition? Heard Harvard parents complaining about this in last game. A pattern during Reno’s tenure
Many of us don’t like it, but it’s not a deal breaker.
Gentlemen; economics 101 15 years versus three years.
David Pantelis has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.
Grant Jordan and Dean Schaffer have also entered the transfer portal.
Alvin Gulley has also entered the transfer portal. Unlike the others he is not a Senior and still has eligibility at Yale.
Gulley is listed as a Sr on the FB roster. He entered in 2021 but didn’t see action FR year. So he’s in line to graduate in May. Seems to me he’s no different from Jordan, who didn’t play in 2021 either.
Unless things have changed, Yale limits athletic participation to undergrads who’ve spent no more than 8 semesters on campus. If that’s still the rule, maybe Alvin and Grant could have played in 2025 by taking off the next semester.
Thanks for your he clarification He is listed as a Jr. on the transfer portal.
Back to Reno, new reports say he is not the leading candidate for the Rice position, but in the mix.
Also Abu Kamara named co-defensive player of the week. Believe this is the 2nd time he’s earned that award.
Yale will miss both players. Maybe they both just want to gauge the interest out there. I would think, especially for a QB, you want to make sure you go where they need a QB desperately. I don’t think Grant would be interested in sitting on the bench. There is only one QB on the field. Second string is not what he should be looking for.
On the other hand, there are three or four defensive lineman on the field and they many times rotate. Much easier for Gulley to find a good situation.
Gentlemen; it is difficult for me to understand why any of the aforementioned players would not want to spend another year at Yale pursuing an ivy league championship
It would help if the Ivy League made it easier for athletes with eligibility left to stay as graduates.
We are now in the era of the transfer portal along with NIL money that destabilizes college teams in both the FBS and FCS. Players are now all free agents at the end of every season. Without athletic scholarships or NIL compensation it is pretty clear what kind of impact this will continue to have on the Ancient Eight. Being Ancient is not a plus in college sports. It will be disappointing if Logan decides to leave if he could have played another season at Yale.
As for Reno, making at least double his salary with no state taxes it seems to me a sure bet he will head to the Lone Star State. I once heard Rice described as the Yale of the South West.
Sorry meant if Jordan decides to leave.
If Jordan is a senior, how could he play at Yale next year? Yale doesn’t allow graduate students to play.
I would love to see him back at quarterback if they could somehow work it out.
To play in 2025, Jordan would have to lay out of school the next semester and return in the fall semester of 2025 and graduate in December. Others have done as much.
This fall semester was his final 8th semester at Yale he’s already taken a spring off.
Gentlemen; In answer to Mr. Rory’s prior question. We unfortunately live in a different era than when you were an outstanding offensive lineman and the other members of the squad were encouraged to utilize a different code of conduct, which was consistent with that practice by our blue squads before and after years prior to the Reno era. I for one prefer our blue squad to exude the class associated with our school, despite which is an obvious changing time in which we live.
I would love to see Yale schedule Rice now so Reno can kick their butts!
As a Houstonian, I’d love to see the Elis play the Owls at Rice Stadium. I might even come up to NH for a match up in the Bowl.
Back in the Eighties, when both teams were drawing bigger crowds, Carm explored the possibility of a Yale-Rice home-and-home series. But it never came off. I don’t see it happening now. Yale might draw 15,000 fans at Rice Stadium, and Rice might draw half of that in the Bowl. A loss to an FCS program would be embarrassing for Rice. In short, I see no incentive for Rice to play us. Wish it were otherwise.
I’m guessing Reno had the job but demanded too much money. Don’t think he really wanted to go. That would explain the leading candidate leak to the press to the subsequent not leading candidate but in the mix leak.
As long as Yale continues to play well and compete for a championship each year, Reno is going to be rumored to be in the running for other jobs. We will go through these rumors every post season. It’s the price of success.
Looks like we return to where we were at this time last year: Who is going to be our quarterback this coming season.? Though this time we must add who are going to be our WRs. Linebacking remains a question mark.
It’s a great question. Yale was so heavy laden with Seniors this year(45) that it was tough for other classes to get significant playing time.
It’s not much to go on, but I’m left wondering why we never saw Brogan McCaughey again after the Cornell game, even in a mop up role. When that opportunity arose in the Brown game it was the highly recruited freshman Bradyn Fleharty who was called open. Was Mcaughey hurt?
At WR Jaxton Santiago will be one starter barring injury. The only other returning WR to record a catch was Garon Kemp, so he should be another. Freshmen Kyle Maltarich and Camden Hickox look like promising candidates based on their recruiting profiles.
At LB Freshman Steven Partin saw some action so he should be in the mix, along with Kamara and Grant.
In short there are lots of holes to fill and a lot of question marks.
What about Robby Tattersall 6-5 210lbs. Great hands his brother Ryan will be a freshman at Harvard by the way.!
McKoy , #13 never saw action except for the spring game. # 8 Nico Brown thrown to twice.
Linebackers Barry #34 hurt Williams #41 hurt. I don’t know
Abu Kamara, is to valuable player to keep on the bench. Utilize him on offense as well. He’s a great athlete a kin to Melvin Rouse.
Maybe we will see William Daal get a chance to back up the captain at running back.
There is a three star quarterback who has committed to Yale for next year.
The QB committee is a two sport recruit – lacrosse too
*committ
The FCS playoffs this year are an argument for including the Ivy League. There are a number of teams that were defeated by Yale and Harvard during the regular season.
I know the Ivy League Presidents will be voting. To allow The Football Teams. To participate in the FCS playoffs. If it is rescinded I would like to see which of the Schools. Put the death knell in the vote. If it doesn’t go through.?
Could be wrong, but I believe it would take six votes to pass. So three schools would have to vote against it.
The FBS roster limits are being lowered to 105 starting next year. That should push talent down to the lower levels.
Mason Shipp Will be back next year at WR.
Good news
I’ve heard Nate Denny is coming back also.
Happy to hear about both Shipp and Denny but I note that Shipp is listed as a senior. Does he truly have another year of eligibility and it’s he said he is going to use it?
2024 marked the first time Yale had three winning seasons in a row since 2006-2008. The difference in the way we all felt after the 2008 season and now is the terrible losses to Princeton in 2006 and especially Harvard in 2007. Those winning seasons were nothing like the last three.
By the way. Doesn’t it seem like the Tom Williams years never happened? Except for 4th and 22 I have pretty much put those three years way in the back of my mind.
To my guys John Ray Son of Eli Bernie and my son Kyle and Jen and to all Yale fans a Happy Thanksgiving go Big Blue.
WALT,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS THE YALE FOOTBALL TEAM AND ALL OF ITS ARDENT FANS AND SUPPORTERS!
Amen!
Has anyone heard of any new commits or targets.? I’ve been looking for weeks. I can’t find anything.
PJ Hartfield, Jr., DB. Decommitted from Columbia and committed to Yale
That’s wonderful news SOE . As always it’s appreciated.
What a game Lehigh, beats #9 Richmond 20 to 16 to advances to play Idaho . Next Saturday 12/7. Well done Coach Cahill
Fantastic game. Congratulations to Coach Cahill. Hopefully Ivy League football players will get the chance fir a similar experience soon.
Central came close today as well losing to URI 21-17. So two teams Yale beat were either very competitive or won outright in the playoffs.
I am in a small minority. I like Ivy League Football . I get tired of people who roll their eyes at me. As I state that I am a Yale Football Fan. I wonder what it would be like to go too, Moscow Idaho to see Yale participate. Or any other town or city west or south of Pennsylvania.?
It’s time to show what Yale or any other Ivy League teams. Represent. Yale may not win. But make people understand that they have to respect them.
According to the Massachusetts Daily Collegian, Tony Reno is still in the mix for the HC job at U Mass.
Unless Tony just wants to return to Massachusetts, I don’t see that as a step up. However, if they double his salary maybe that doesn’t matter.
It won’t be easy to win there.
I don’t see it as a step up either other than having the opportunity to coach in the FBS. In terms of salary I think it will be doubled and if he is successful at U Mass the compensation will grow a lot more and faster than staying in New Haven, even if he wins the next five Harvard games in a row.
My worry is Vicki Chun picking the next football coach. I don’t have much faith in her ability to put competence first.
Gentlemen; should coach Reno according to my two cents make an incorrect decision to be the leader of the Minutemen. I also do not have faith in the athletic Director to make a quick and decisive decision in the choice of the best leader of our blue squad. It also would be helpful to learn which players will be exercising their possible extra year of eligibility.
Ezekiel Larry has entered the transfer portal again. Guess things didn’t go as planned at SDSU.
I’ve been following the former Eli’s. Clay Patterson at Stanford Jon Mendoza Louisville, Jackson Hawes who is a beast at Georgia Tech. Wande Owens at UNH . They all did well. Larry not so much.
Is there nothing that can be done about the Russian propaganda?
I agree comrade, nyat to this
Gentlemen; Mr. Larry is the only one of our former blue squad who was technically an underclassman. Maybe he should have read this blog for direction.
Great news for Yale. Vicki Chun should immediately get to work in giving Reno a contact extension. He is one of the top coach’s in Yale’s illustrious history. Let’s not forget that not that long ago Yale had lost 14 of 15 to Harvard. Now they’ve won three in a row and six of the last eight. Yale can’t afford to lose him.
SOE:
I AGREE 100% WITH YOUR POST!
Get rid of this Russian garbage
Nyet.
Da
One of the grad transfers, Alvin Gulley Jr. is going back to his home state and committed to Northern Illinois University. Notre Dame’s only loss of the season.
Yale would have had a share of a third championship in a row but for a momentary brain freeze on the Dartmouth onside kick. Everybody makes mistakes. Reno is still a Great coach for Yale. We’ll win it again next year.
Can the moderator put the post game review of The Harvard Game up.
Also an updated commitment list of incoming players. Who is coming back for another year. From the current squad.
Can you please, Erase these God forsaken Russian posts.! Please

Correct link.

All Ivy just was announced- I really wonder who votes for these selections. https://ivyleague.com/news/2024/11/26/ivy-league-announces-football-all-ivy-special-teams-player-of-the-year-rookie-of-the-year.aspx

Nyet.

Please
