QB Preview

The starting quarterback position remains a mystery with Reno noting that all four signal callers on the roster are still vying for the role during his tight-lipped media day session. Those four in contention are Marshall Howe, Brogan McCaughey, Grant Jordan, and Bradyn Fleharty. Howe stunned the fan base last season when he took snaps as the backup over Tutas who had looked very promising throughout the 2022 season. Howe is a quick decision maker with good accuracy and has decent mobility in the pocket. McCaughey might be the best pure passer of the bunch with the natural ability to elude defenders in the pocket long enough to locate an open target downfield. Howe and McCaughey appear to be the top contenders and the starting nod could be decided based upon what the passing game strategy is to be in 2024. If Reno favors screens to Pantelis and quick hitters to Shipp, Howe could be the best fit. If Reno wants to stretch defenses vertically, McCaughey could be the chosen one. The pass protection and snapping capabilities of the offensive line will also be huge factors as the choice might boil down to who can simply field a stray snap, dodge defenders, and secure a first down under pressure. Grant Jordan is the lone senior QB in the mix and saw limited action versus Brown and Morgan State. Freshman Bradyn Fleharty seems to have the most in common with Nolan Grooms as a true dual threat with speed, power and big play ability. The player who emerges camp as the starter might not remain the starter very long with a tough matchup in Worcester in Week 1 that could derail plans quickly.

Gentlemen; What happened to Mr. Tutas? I thought he had one more year of eligibility. Unfortunately, the signal caller position will be the key to our blue success this season. The offense this year seems to be groomed no pun intended for the same style as last year. If I were a betting man, the signal caller of choice will be someone with similar talent to number 12.

Dante Reno will look great in blue after a little time buried on an SEC depth chart. You heard it here first.

Agh that’s it.? Yawnnnn. Yale needs to start having some SHOWMANSHIP.!! This is ridiculous. The thing is, is that we already KNOW THIS.
Start beating the drum to get the word on this team.!! Maybe if coach gave some guidelines on what to report on his team. Learn to trust that the fans aren’t on Trumps staff to divulge State secrets.!! I would say commercials on Radio , Ohh right administration got rid of WELI radio.!! Come on man stop throwing the breadcrumbs to the FANS.!! We want some Meat and potatoes.! Go Yale!!

Any update on when practice starts and who Yale will scrimmage. I assume they will scrimmage someone in the league on September 7 since most OOC teams will be playing on the 7th.

For many years we’ve scrimmaged Brown. Presumably it will take place in Prov since this year’s game is at the Bowl.

Nothing wrong with starting the season with two QB’s until one proves himself to be the most effective.

Or go to the baseball team to get a former QB . Like Cozza did in 1990 with Darren Kehler.
Training Camp starts today.

Congratulations to Jackson Hawes and Georgia Tech. Jackson was utilized as a blocking TE. He was key to the running game today. He and Yale got mentioned a couple of times. Georgia Tech won 24 to 21 in a surprising upset. Go Bulldogs

Big Green Alert has and article every day. On his blog. Human interest, team news, something. It’s the free site as well.

Read some interesting articles by Bruce Woods the Big Green Alert author. He has and article every day on something.

The official Yale Football records have now been updated to include the 2021-2023 seasons. Among the key additions :

Grooms is now #2 in career TD passes and career total offense;
Mason Tipton is now #3 in career TD receptions;
Clay Patterson is now #2 in career sacks.

One error I noticed is in single season passing records where Rawlings’ 3002 yards in 2019 should place him at #2, but the season is omitted from the list.

Gentlemen; Griffin O’Connell is number one and four in all time passing yards single game. What became of Mr. O’Connell he had two more years of eligibility. Also, no feedback yet on the exit of Mr. Tutus.

I couldn’t find anything recent about O’Connor or Tutas. It’s like old Yale QB’s who leave the program fall into a black hole.

Today’s vlog is about Keith Clark’s The Offensive Line Coach for Dartmouth’s view on his players. In the depth , understanding and communication with his players. How the players embrace and teach the younger ones how to be.

Awesome. Looks like deiter eiselen and gargulo made practice squads. Thomas, oluokon and bears tackle all 53 man. Wonder if four active roster is all time high for Yale. Fencik, spagnola and rohrer were all same time. If Jauron overlapped or Eugene profit that would make four.

I think you are right, SOE. In fact, they may have been in Super Bowls in consecutive years, both against the Redskins.

The good news is that Former captain Wande Owens . Had 14 tackles in Last nights game against UCF .
The bad news is UCF won 57- 3

Near the end of the Army-Lehigh game tonight the announcer mentioned Monken is 18-2 against FCS teams. They then specified he lost to Fordham. They failed to mention the other FCS team he lost to, which is of course….YALE!

Went to the SHU football game . Last night . Some points of interest. Did you know that SHU makes their own beer. That they have their own brewery and business marketing. That a General admission ticket grants you access to the Beer tent. Which also serves a selection of various affordable beer and food.? I had a sausage and pepper sub.
Did you know that this school has a GREAT BAND , Cheer leaders that actually interact with the fans. Not just alumni and the student section. 4,273 fans at yesterday game. But it seemed so much more.
Yale is so deficient in so many ways. I will be going back to SHU again very soon. Thank you Rick, Walt that was a good time

Yale had a beer tent with German food last year. It was excellent.

Yale beat Sacred Heart 31-3 last year. So in what matters most, the quality of play, Yale is not deficient at all.

SOE, that’s not the point at all. Of Yales play. But it’s good to know. That the haves have. And others don’t cheers. If the trend continues, it may very well ceased to exist. If you could all wrap your head around that. Which I doubt

Gentlemen; regrettably the old guard of our blue have long passed on. The new generation appears to be complacent and only look forward to the Cantab contest. There are numerous influential past players of stature and influence, including Mr. Dowling, Mr. Hill and Mr. Diana, just to name a few, who could easily step to the forefront to advocate an 11th game and entry to the playoffs.

Brown football of operations. Did get back to me . Brown is having a intersquad scrimmage at 10 to 12 . Will be open to the public.
On Wednesdays they have a get together to discuss the team with HC James Perry . Food and drink is provided.
You wanna bring FANS to and event . To peak interest to the program. That’s HOW YOU DO IT YALE.!! LEARN

Never happen at Yale Tony and Vicky do not care about the fans . Never any news about Yale football remember we are the guard we are the old timers who have been going to yale games for over sixty years we need a hotdog get the party going yale .Tony next sat be nice treat everyone to a hotdog and let us meet the players we support. The bowl is a glorious place to spend a saturday afternoon in the fall try to bring the fans back not push them away. Tony looking foward to that hotdog next sat spread the word put it on the yale football blog also ivy league sport board THANK YOU.

It would also by a nice gesture if they would restore the tradition of allowing fans on the field after the game.

Yale Athletics is proud to announce the re-opening of the Lapham Field House at the Smilow Field Center thanks to the generosity and support of distinguished Yale alumni and the university. As part of the capital project, the Yale Bowl complex will be dedicated in memory of Carm Cozza, who served as Yale Football’s head coach from 1965 to 1996.

Facilities is what Vicki Chun does best. She deserves kudos for all of the major facilities upgrades completed under her tenure.

If anyone here has a spare 10-$15,000,000 he can provide and, no doubt, get his name on what the coaches really crave-a indoor practice facility. Any takers?
