Wide Receiver Preview

The loss of the top two wide receivers in Yale football history will certainly impact the receiving production in the 2021 season but rest assured that the cupboards are not bare.  Mason Tipton is clearly the top returning talent at the wide receiver position after a solid 2019 performance in which he hauled in 24 receptions for 325 yards and four touchdowns.  Tipton improved week after week in 2019 and was truly phenomenal in the final contest versus Harvard with 6 catches for 82 yards and one of the most memorable touchdown receptions in Yale football history.  Jaylan Sandifer started five games in 2018 and showed that he can be a home-run threat in 2019 averaging 24.6 yards per reception.  Darrion Carrington has seen action in contests since his freshman season and notched two touchdown receptions in 2019.  Jay Brunelle is the true wild-card of the bunch as a former 3-star recruit that transferred from Notre Dame.  He suffered an AC separation in his shoulder that kept him out of the 2020 season for the Fighting Irish, but if he can stay healthy, he could be a key contributor at this position group and possibly break into the starting lineup.  Jacob Biggs is another transfer who walked onto the football team at the University of Utah and made an impact on special teams for the Utes.  Melvin Rouse is a dynamic player that could start on either side of the ball and although we will need him to start at defensive back, he can be thrown in at wide receiver at anytime and generate a big play when needed.  Joey Felton has blazing speed and saw action as a freshman in 2019, no small feat when there was an abundance of talent at the position that season.  Beyond the wideouts with collegiate experience, we have young talent such as Mason Shipp, CJ Thompson and Ryan Lindley that could have breakout seasons in 2021.

I believe regardless of who s named as the starting 3 WR’s, all of the top 5 listed will see substantial playing time. It’s similar to the WR situation Yale had in 2017 where 5 receivers all made major contributions (e.g. Williams Lopez, Shohfi, Klubnick, Siragusa and Drawl). Here hoping it leads to another Ivy League Championship!

It’s been a trying year for everyone, I am blessed having a job . That never stopped, look forward to certain things. Yale Football being one of them.
Having been in. The front lines since this started. I have been disappointed again and again. NO RENTRY TO yOUR CAR. For food or if you forgot something. No food or beverage, no binocular case, charging families with little kids, a small fortune.
It used to be a great time , times have changed . You may get people in . But it won’t be the standard. Your not USC, your not Notre Dame. If you were . I wouldn’t have a problem with it. YOU ARE A SMALL TIME PROGRAM.. That has shunned its past and its communities. I will never set foot in that Bowl until Vicky Chump is released and new standards are in place. RIP Yale Football.!! As a parent of a former captain of an Ivy League Champion, these comments if totally true make me very sad for Yale Football nation and particularly those faithful fans who would attend home games.
Those days at the stadium were more like an event than just a game. Children, front line medical, police or firefighters all were free attendees and could bring entire family for a great fall afternoon in New Haven. It was hard enough to watch home games with the exception of Harvard played in front of very small crowd but at least there was support of the local community by the administration back then.
To think that now that has changed and a university with a multi billion dollar endowment is charging these fine people to attend just deeply saddens me and begs the question why would would I push my son to attend or play football at such an institution,

Or better yet, perspective on other positions. No word on Ben Finkle.? Any how news should be flowing.

Hmm Ivy Media Day… I for one would like to read about that. If I had access to it. Such as these people do. I would throw my hat into the ring. TELL PEOPLE ABOUT IT. !!! Get a clue.!!

Yale’s President confirmed today on an alumni webinar that Yale athletics are on for the fall. We will play football.
