Yale 38 Holy Cross 31

Well I see I’m going to have to keep my nitro close to me. Great win , sloppy but a win is a win. Great job by Brogan, to step in and get the job done. I see Jaxton Santiago becoming a very special player. Go Bulldogs

I agree about Santiago. He showed he’s a player. Another Freshman who looked good is Breylan Thompson, the DB out of Houston’s Episcopal High. When he sacked Pesansky, he tomahawked the ball out of Pesanky’s hands, and another Bulldog recovered it. Huge play in retrospect.

Gentlemen; Interesting game under tough conditions. Linebackers appear to be a little lead footed biggest area of concern. Many players on the depth chart did not participate. Offensive line should be good by end of the season. Obviously, a better start than last year. A note to the special teams coach aim the kickoff toward one side of the playing field or the other.

It did seem like a scrimmage at times with the lack of participation by many. Makes the win pretty remarkable.

Have they lost at all in blue pants. They beat Princeton all blue in 2022 and Dartmouth with the throwbacks.

I would love to see the 1955 uniforms with the gold pants. Especially if Yale ever plays Army again as the 1955 team beat #12 ranked Army that year.

Blue pants are now 4-1.
Personally, I don’t like ’em, but I’m not the target audience.

White jerseys/blue pants – this was only the 2nd time with that combination, the other was a W over Harvard in 2022.
I noticed, in the scrimmage photo that accompanied the HC preview on the athletics website, that everyone was wearing the blue pants. Makes me wonder if they’re the default now.

Also was interesting to see that HC now uses the old visitors side of the stands as the home side at Fitton. I thought that was odd.

I don’t like the blue plants at home. Only on the road, and then only rarely. Once a season. Two times max. Tradition is important, especially in a program like Yale’s.

I agree. Tradition is our point of difference. Everyone can do Oregon uniform craziness. Very few can say they haven’t changed since WWII. The Ivies were first, so they have the first claim to the simplest brands – a blue team, a red team, a green team, an orange team. Keep it that way – that’s what makes it cool.

I agree w/ you both. The attitude should be: “we don’t follow trends, we follow our history.”
Reno has made “Team ###” such a focus, for reasons of tying the current team to the program’s long history.
You would think an extension of that would be to wear the same uniform that’s been worn for longer than most folks associated w/ the program have been alive.
You would think it would appeal to our players to be able to wear the same design that was worn by Dowling, Hill, Jauron, Diana, Grieve, Spagnola, Fencik, Reese, EJ, Varga, Rawlings, etc., etc., etc.
But as I said earlier, we’re not the target demographic.

Ah… EJ = Eric Johnson.
I was a little panicked there, but I figured it out after ten seconds.

One positive change made since WWII is the helmets, which, if I’m not mistaken went from numbers on the side to the Y on side sometime in the early sixties. Maybe others will remember the exact year.

The traditional uniforms are classic and SI and other publications have always ranked Yale’s uniforms in the top ten in the country.

I can live with the blue pants once in a while, I guess, and like SOE would prefer they be worn only on the road.

There is one tradition that is inviolable and that is one captain. The line is drawn there.

Can we get the traditional three-line stripe on the blue pants or am I just getting too into the weeds??

That would be a plus. The helmet has stripes, the jerseys have contrasting collar and cuffs. The blue pants, on the other hand, look like…..blue sweatpants. (LOL)

Three big non football plays Saturday. First, the fake field goal whistled dead. Brutal. Gotta coach the kids to disguise that if possible. That was wide open. Kinda BS that it was blown dead that late.

Next, two huge penalties helped the game winning drive. I think they were both fair but can’t count on that.

Think QB should’ve kept on the RPO there at midfield on last drive against a tired HC D with their backs against the wall. Love that they ran it in rather than risk the kick. Also Tony just bc you have man coverage doesn’t mean you have to throw a back shoulder fly every time. It’s New England college ball not Madden 😉

Appears roster is still talented despite graduating real talent. That said, hope injured skill guys heal up – they’ll need them in league play.

Nice win in sum. Sloppy at times but expected in first game. Crusaders weren’t the same team, which is fine by me but not a true test. All in all, can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning and can’t go undefeated with beating HC.

Go Dogs!

Great win for Yale glad Wilhelm Dall had some playing time in the game sat big kid has speed and power should get more playing time this year.My thinking he should have been playing more the last few years hope he get his chance this year. Any news on Pitsenberger will he play next sat against Cornell what was is injury any one know ? Good play by yale on both sides if the ball wish they had a little more speed at Defensive end go yale

Massey has Yale 21 to 17 . I say put another 10 points on that score. The depth and talent on this team is a huge plus.
The players and coaches show the work that they have committed to this year.
Massey has a Probability 61% to win the game Go Blue Dogs.!!

Gentlemen; win probabilities mean absolutely nothing. The major question is which one of our squad is available for the contest against the Corneilians

Also, uniforms do not win games! We need to know the status of all potential starters going forward. Of course their status does not guarantee wins either.

Don’t expect any information on that. We find out who’s able to play when the referee blows the whistle, not before. It’s the Reno way. Frustrating, for sure, but the mindset appears to be: if the fans don’t know who’s going to play, neither does the opponent.

You’re so right, VV.
Dare we assume that Grant Jordan’s not lost for the season if he’s still listed as the starter on Thursday’s two-deep?

I wonder who Chun, is talking to fill the football schedule. Holy Cross is off as of 2028. I would hope that she could get another series with them.
Maybe A local team, one from another region. Southwest , West coast, Northwest. A home and home series. Would have liked to see Cal Poly, Richmond, Mercer

Another series with HC is fine. Just not every year. Maybe a four game series spread over 8 years. The other teams you mentioned would be great. How about Air Force in Colorado for an FBS game or Northern Arizona from the Big Sky conference? (has nothing to do with me living in Arizona) 😉

I went to all the Yale games in California, the two in San Diego and Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in 2013. SLO is a great college town. Would love to go back there.

ZAVIER AVERA ( OL) IS NO LONGER LISTED ON THE YALE FOOTBALL ROSTER. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REASON WHY?
