Chase Nenad showcased has talents with some outstanding long yardage receptions. Perhaps the better title would be “most underutilized player.” Look forward to him making more impact next season.

Gentlemen; I agree with Mr. RIW, unfortunately I think he was injured at the end of the year. Hopefully Number 82 we’ll have a complete recovery in order to play next year.

I always appreciate your perspectives, but I wonder, why do you always say “gentlemen”? There may be women who read the comments on this site.

Re: Heisman ceremony.
For the older Elis a bit of trivia: Pete Dawkins 1958 Heisman winner was accepted to Yale but chose to attend West Point. The Bulldogs 1958 team could have benefited greatly if he had chosen Yale. Perhaps even more interesting is the great Yale 1956 team would have been even more loaded with talent as he would have joined Dennis McGill (All American) and Al Ward in the backfield.

Two of Reno’s assistants have now gone on to Division I head coaching positions (Conlin and Steven’s). I don’t believe any other Ivy League Football head coach can match that. It’s a great selling point for Reno to bring new high quality talent to the Yale assistant coaching ranks.

Because when you lose games that never should have been lost, for example Dartmouth and Harvard, the first reaction is always to blame the coach.

Sometimes with good reason, sometimes not, but we all do it in the immediate aftermath when disappointment is at its highest level.

Well said by Bulldog10JW. Sometimes the reaction to losing certain games never fades. The beloved Carm Cozza continued to receive his share of armchair criticism many years after Harvard “beat” Yale in 1968 and Princeton’s win over Yale in 1981.

Yes, well said. While I’m frustrated we annually lose close games to Dartmouth, and I I didn’t like the possession after we took the lead vs. Harvard (would have run with Dudek, would have punted to pin them at their 5 or 10)… still, Reno must be doing an awful lot of things right.

Re: 1968, it seems unimaginable the outcome could have been worse. Yet it would have been if it had ended, say, H 30 Y 29, or H29 Y 28.

Finally — while attendance at the Bowl is sad, how is it around the league? Serious question, I don’t know.

So nice to have and unemotional detachment. To have rose colored glasses where everything is fabulous.? Really , all the pass interference penalties..? Turn your head , the chippy attitude, get in your face. It’s a reflection of the coach. Show some class. ?
So I for one disagree with you, that’s my opinion. You may look at what it is with your thoughts. But Reno , needs to mature and get up to speed with the likes of Teevens , Murphy, Bagmoli and Surace.

What do you think about the football commits this year? One website puts Yale second in Ivy League to Princeton.

They have a receiver out of St Louis named Brooks who looks like a big time talent.

As a coach, Reno was at his best at the 2016 Y-H game. His team had a disaster of a season (most games were lost by halftime) and Harvard was a huge favorite. His second half onside kickoff and a touchdown via a fake field goal contributing play completely flummoxed Harvard, and he did it using first-year players! Since then he has gone conservative, both in the use of players and in play calling. I wonder why.

Not having Reed might have something to do with it. IIRC, he had 2 key onsides recoveries that year

Like many here, I’m worried that we’ve reverted to the mediocrity that was the hallmark of the pre-class of 2020 Reno years. Since then, we’ve been out-recruited by H & P and we’re usually out-coached by D. We only seem to win when our material’s clearly superior, and this year we were quite imaginative in coming up with ways to lose. Mutter. Mutter. I hope I’m wrong.

And when do we get a report on the Harvard game and what’s followed? How many here remember Bullpoop? I miss it or something like it.

The descent continues. A few weeks ago we were, according to 247, #1 in 2022 Ivy League commits. Then came the de-commit. Now we are #3.

I wouldn’t get hung up on recruiting rankings. Dartmouth is usually in the middle of the league pack every year in recruiting rankings and they seem to do pretty well. Just gotta coach em up.

If there’s one thing Reno & staff can and should improve, it’s this:
Yale has been the most penalized team in league games for each of the last 4 season – possibly longer (the Ivy website doesn’t have stats for ’16 or ’15, so my research goes back through 2017).

In total penalty yards over the past 4 seasons / 28 league games, it’s not even close. Look at the gap from Yale to the next-most penalized team, and the gap from that team to the least-penalized. Yale is in a (failing) class of their own.

30 of those 1,917 yards conceivably cost Yale one undefeated season (2017 Dartmouth) and another co-championship (2021 Dartmouth).

Agree with Voy Vey. That is on Reno and staff. Undisciplined and it seems like they encourage players to trash talk. I sat behind Yale bench for a game this year and was surprised the hear the amount of trash talking by Yale players directed at their opponent.

That has been going on for years, Doctor. And yes, it’s on the staff. Different players, same behavior (and same boatload of penalties).

No word on recruiting ? This is not good seems other ivy coaches are all over the country looking for recruits. Reno has to have a outstanding recruiting year in 2022 or it will be a long 4 years for yale. A lot of sr will be gone next year good players I hope he does well.

It’s obviously endorsed by the coaching staff and I don’t think it’s helpful. I always thought trash talk gave your opponent extra incentive and made the refs, unconsciously maybe, scrutinize Yale players more than their opponents.

It doesn’t just cost Yale on the obvious penalties, but, and your numbers show this, the borderline calls, and more important as the games against Dartmouth show, the calls seem to go against Yale at crucial moments.

For those who think 24/7 is beside the point, the class of 2020 had six three star recruits and six two stars. Yes, it’s early, but we’ve got three three stars at the moment, and we’re in third place.

And yes, the kicking tee incident continues to haunt us. Should we band together and send Teevens a box of them? How do we reverse the curse?

As for trash talking, I got an earful of it sitting behind our bench at the Brown game. Totally inexcusable, AND it doesn’t seem to work.

The trash talking stuff is just bizarre to me. Could you see Bagnoli, Surace, Teevens, Murphy allowing that crap with their players? Ties back to his arrogance and lack of discipline, and lack of character.

Those penalty statistics are sobering.

As disappointing as the end of the season was, yale lost 4 close games by a total of 18 points. A play here, a play there and it would have been a different season. I don’t think that we’re that far away from competing for the championship.

But everyone’s criticisms about this regime are spot on. Too many penalties, giving up too many big plays.

Is that a lick of coaching, discipline, or both?

We actually competed for a championship this year. Except for Princeton, every game was competitive and winnable.

I expect next year to be even better with Grooms at QB from day one.

Which , stay with me comes from coaching. Those 4 out the 5 games. Come from RENO. Those 4 losses are from and due to Reno. Do you get that.?
I don’t care that she has won 2 championships in 9 years.
Those championships, were from the caliber of players he had at his disposal.
They were gamers and mature, they know the game better than him. Hence minimal coaching. Your giving Reno way to much credit. He’s a good coach, HE IS Not A GREAT COACH. He needs to humble himself and his staff and team. He needs to be able to make better decisions. Some of his play calling is mediocre at best. Sheez

David ’72 makes the point that Yale lost 4 games by 18 points this year. Tying that into the penalty discussion, think about this:

It’s NFL so it’s not apples to apples, but generally speaking, the average team scores 1 point for every 15 yards gained, give or take a little.
Yale had 226 more penalty yards this season than the average of the other 7 Ivy teams. Using 15 yards per point, that works out to a 15-point deficit compared to the average Ivy team.
Simply get penalized like an average team, and the losing margin of those 4 games almost gets completely wiped away.

It would be nice if Yale would release the 2022 schedule this week as a Christmas present for us loyal fans. I’m hoping for another FBS matchup.

Anonymous’ unbecoming sarcasm aside, for a slam-dunk laugher we could schedule Oberlin. We play ’em in hoops since our ex-point guard is their coach, why not football? they’re D-3 and go 1-9 every year.

Has anyone seen the IL Sports Board post for Brown 2022 football recruiting? I am sure that Dartmouth has a similar list of commits. How about Yale?

Hey fellas. Per voy about a zoom call Coach Murphy had. Had some interesting info I thought it would be interesting to share and discuss:

A few days ago about 90 of us joined coach Murphy for a zoom call, and some interesting things emerged
There seems to be support- with the Yale AD running interference on this one- for starting the season a week earlier. This change would make Ivy teams more competitive in their September games vs non-league foes who’ve played at least one more game. It would also allow for some rest during a bye week in October, provided an 11th game isn’t added to the schedule.

They should move the season up two weeks with a bye and an 11th game. This would most improve the Ivy League’s ability to schedule FBS opponents.

The first question becomes, when would this start? Yale plays Holy Cross as their opener until, I believe 2027. These dates are set in stone I would think.

In order to start a week earlier I would think it would have to be an Ivy league game moved from October to early September. At least for now. It would be hard to move an OOC game unless that team has an open date that week in September. That would also mean the whole league would take off the same week until future schedules are adjusted to include the bye (Or better yet, an 11th game)

This would open the door to many possibilities,. Bring Yale , and The Ivy League into the 21st century finally. Do it and it will happen. Breath life into a stale situation.
On the other hand Army beat Missouri 24 to 22. I’ve always envisioned Yale , playing up its schedule to a much higher level.
Would like to see it before I am gone.

The HC dates are set through 2028. But, they are for a specific date (usually the 3rd Saturday in September), not necessarily as “the first game of the season.” If the season started a week earlier, the HC game would simply become “week 2,” which is fine.
I’ve been under the assumption that the current late start is due to the Ivies starting fall practice later than the rest of D-1. Moving up the start of the season by one week without also moving up the start of practice would probably require that the first game be an in-conference game, because otherwise the Ivy schools would be at a serious practice disadvantage. That’s fine…but it doesn’t allow for expanded out-of-conference opportunities. So, hopefully if this change is seriously being considered, they’ll also start fall practice a week earlier.

Yale baseball schedule is posted. A game that jumps out at me is the 4/27 game against UConn. Yale lists the location as TBD, while UConn lists it at Storrs. Hopefully, Yale can convince UConn to hold the game at the newly renovated Yale Field. It would be a great occasion to celebrate the newly renovated ball park, particularly if they make it a night game with a 6:00 start. Maybe they could even get George W Bush back to throw out the first pitch in honor of his father.

The Yale baseball schedule is now posted. One game that jumped out at me is the April 27 game against UConn. Yale has the location listed as to be determined. Uconn has the location listed as Stores . This would be a marquee game to officially open the new George H.W. Bush field. They can hold the game at night to get maximum attendance and maybe even get George W. Bush to throw out the first pitch to honor his father. With a little vision this could be a great event to celebrate thus terrific and historic facility.

Guys just saw Princeton recruiting glass for next year in football it will blow your mind.There not even done yet and its outstanding as if now. this class might be the best every in the Ivy League.Harvard does not even come close to what Princeton has done so far.The rest of the league will pick up the scraps and be done

Recruiting rankings are very suspect. How does Dartmouth finish at the top of the league every year, while always in the middle to bottom half of the league in recruiting rankings?

That is a very good question.? Teevens and his staff are true coaches. Unlike the imposters at Yale…. period.!!!
