Disappointing loss. Too many penalties. No consistency on offense. Impressed with the defense adjustments and effort.
The defense deserved better. The play calling in OT was questionable to say the least.
Let’s put together a big effort against UConn.
Fire Cahill no offense to think of Dudek running with no blocking on the outside no creativity with this offense. Same old crappy offense same plays every down. One back in the backfield you know where the ball is going all the time.Someone has to take responsibility for this disgraceful lack of offense. If Reno cannot see this he should be gone too..Defense was on the field to long they played a good game to bad the offense was so disappointing its all on you Cahill
Time of possession
Yale 35 minutes
Dartmouth 25 minutes
Dartmouth was 3 of 13 on 3rd down
The defense was not on the field too long.
Didn’t Yale outfain Dartmouth in total yards?
Yale 312
Dartmouth 274
Check out Yale Daily News, opinion section . Mchugh 10.8 sums it up. The fall from Grace on the Yale Bowl and football team. Very Sad at once was. Now debunked.
Also what happened to Griffin O Conners mechanics.?!! He doesn’t square up and sets his feet when he throws .!! When he does it’s awesome. But he looks very off balance .
10 or 12 thousand at Dartmouth home coming that was great for them We don’t have a home coming because no one is going to the prison to watch Yale football. There was a time when everyone enjoyed going to the bowl to watch yale footballThose times are goneVicky Chun saw to that with all her rules she did not help yale sports she destroyed them going to be a long year for yale sports . Uconn will have there way with yale . They may not win another game with there offense play calling. Does anyone else see how bad this is please say something before the season is lost.
I’ve been beating this drum for quite some time now. The rules she has put in place . May have been ok at Colgate. But not needed at Yale.
Yale had a welcoming homey feeling , that all others envied. Now it’s a pig with lipstick., which in all circumstances is still pig. Now you wait and see that attendance will only be around 2,000 people.
I’ve been around to long to see what that Old Bowl fills out too. I won’t be there. But ESPN + will scan the place I can see it.
I never knew that so many Yalies were Egyptian.? Living in denial. If you need help , I’m here for you. I won’t turn my back on you. Like VC has done to New Haven and beyond.
As for Tony Reno, you don’t have to close your practices. Your play calling on offense is well OFFENSIVE.!! Plain old boring vanilla ,play calling . That has lost 2 games ,so far. All on you and Cahill.!! Atrocious.!!
Thank you very much for doing so. Now I don’t have to privy to such gross negligence.
Guys better find another FG kicker that kick may have cost us the game.
May have.? And the Holy Cross game as well.!!
Blaming everything on the kicker is missing many points, IMO. Very poor play calling (what was so secretive that no one could see practices – off tackle?), very poor blocking by the OL (plain to see that there are no holes off tackle (!), and many unnecessary penalties indicating an undisciplined team. I would put all of these on the head coach.
The Bulldogs have lost two very close games, one to a pretty good team, and one VERY good team. I see a lot of potential in this squad; in particular, the defense has at times played magnificently. I’m keeping the finger off the panic button for now. This might not be a championship season, but it could be a very interesting one.
There were several.positives to take out of yesterday’s game. Let’s face it. Many of us were worried about another Dartmouth blowout. Not only did that not happen, but Yale outplayed Dartmouth.
The defense was outstanding, the offense, while not dominant, did score to put Yale ahead late in the fourth quarter, had the ball for 35 minutes, and significantly improved their third down conversion percentage.
One play kept this from being a signature win, despite too many penalties again.
I expect Yale to be competitive in every game going forward, including Princeton and Harvard.
I agree that the defense is much better than in the past few years. Better tacking, better pass coverage, and better pass rush. They do seem a bit soft on the run, but overall a big improvement!
How can you people not see we have no offense my god Hand high school has a better offense then yale. Reno and Cahill better come up with a better offense next sat or they will get smoked. PeeWee football is what yale is running good luck next sat your going to need it.
Is it WE or YOU’RE
Did you switch sides halfway through your post?
I agree with Anonymous at Bulldog10JW. We went to OT on the road against the 1st or 2nd best team in the league, that had won its previous three games by an average of 24 points. Reno has won 2 of the last 3 Ivy titles and shattered Harvard’s dominance. Compare that to the Sidlecki years, the Williams disaster, and Carm post-1981.
As for the rules at the Bowl, I live on the West Coast so haven’t attended since 2015. But they sound bad. Firing the ol’ “ragtime band,” at least with a game left in the season, a few years ago was classless. At the same time, Ivy football really doesn’t stand a chance in modern times as people would rather watch the big FBS matchups. If Army would play us annually that’d be great, but they won’t. Maybe UConn can be a thing, at least until they stop being a putrid program. Or maybe they’ll go FCS.
I’ve said it all along — we will destroy the Huskies next week. Beating Columbia and Brown should be no problem. This will be a winning season and lay the groundwork for 2022.
I know Yale has the talent, Reno, had a year and a half to tweak that offense.. He did NOTHING.!! Cahill is the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator. Correct, why is Griffin O’Conners mechanics so off.? He doesn’t follow through, he throws off his back foot. He doesn’t square up his shoulders. He cowers when he hears footsteps. He’s extremely tentative. Reminds of another QB who was a really good . When he first got here but declined rapidly Tre Moore, the 3rd or 4th best prospect to come to Yale. He sat on the bench. I remember watching the kid run through his progressions . Throwing the pinpoint to receivers. Then he got his chance , he was doing the same thing O’Conner is going through now. ?!!
I don’t see Yale beating UConn at all. Maybe Penn, I don’t believe Columbia nor Brown are gimmes at this point.
They’re to undisciplined, the coaching staff needs to polish these kids up, O line needs a lot work, cut down on the stupid penalties, they need better play calling. Use 1Qb so the offensive line gets used to the cadence of that Qb.seems when they switch it throws the timing and rhythm off on the drive. Yale ,should be 4 -0 not 2-2 the 2 games lost was due to the knuckle head coaching.
As far as the rules at the Yale Bowl, you can only slap a person in the face so many times. Before said person turns their back on you. As Vicky Chun, has done to the community. Go back to Colgate, where you belong. Yale Bowl is pretty on the outside, but what does it matter , if it only has a 100 people in it. ?
This is rank heresy, but I believe (anonymously, of course) that we may have come to the end of the trail with Zane Dudek. He has great pluck, and he’s a great blocker, but the defenses have caught on and it’s all been downhill since his explosive freshman year. What about McKenzie, our fourth beat recruit according to 247? What about others? Time for an audition?
I think it is more the young offensive line than Dudek I also think Yale made a mistake not giving him the ball on 4th ansd 1 in overtime.
Bulldog10JW, I whole heartedly agree with you. Use a I formation, use a Hback to lead interference to block for the kid. .?!!
This is what I was referring too. No imagination, No creativity.? You had 20 months to put in new plays a new look, new wrinkles NOTHING.!! Those loses all on Reno. Period.!!
Sorry. Make that fourth “best” recruit.
This week marks the half-point of the season for Yale. Did it ever occur to those of you who insist that this team has ” so much talent,” that they don’t, and were overrated by the media because of the success of team in 2019 ? Clearly too much was expected of O’Conner, probably based on his Rookie of the Year award his Freshman year, when he started three games and lost two of them, including a slaughter by Harvard. The poor guy has trouble completing half his passes. I can’t believe that is all his fault or that of the coaches. He is surrounded by a team with
modest talent. That said, I am impressed by their improvement!
Well we all said this last few years change the offense we need something new. The players are probably tired of be pushed around and punched in the face every time there is a running play Coach they know were the ball is going ever time .Don’t you get it. The people in the stands know your plays before the snap of the ball. Wake up both of you and help these young men enjoy the rest of the season. There is talent on this team we have good receivers nine RB a young offense line that is still trying to find its way and two OB who are decent but not stellar. Im know coach put i know its time for a change give these young man something to play with. or the season will be lost. Rite Aid Man.
Harvard 2018 not that much of a slaughter in my memory. 45-27 final, but it was 28-27 early in the 4th.
Now the Princeton game was 42-7 at one point. More of a slaughter even though Yale made it respectable at 59-43. (If you can look respectable giving up 59)
Give O’Connor a game or two where he is not replaced every other series. Very hard to establish a rhythm! If it doesn’t work, give Grooms a complete game or two. Same issue with switching out so often. That leaves P and H….
Yale. Keys to the game stay home. To Reno and Cahill we all know your going to run the same offense good luck; If your going to use the plays you save for Harvard good luck to.Did you and Cahill look at the tapes of the last game see anything that needed fixing yes the offense. You had a week to fix some things i hope its not the same offense. It would be nice if it was a reinvented offense with movement and a few trick plays and please throw more to are TE, UCONN 28 YALE 10
