Well, that was not fun. Stagnant offense. Didn’t get the big play when needed on defense. Sure glad it wasn’t a league game.
I hope the season doesn’t go the way of 2018, the last time we blew a lead against HC
Some thoughts, the attendance I guesstimated to be 3,000 to 4,000 people. I noticed it was not shown in the box score. Food was expensive, but looked and smelled good.
Could we get some in depth training for these hapless officials in particular the side judge Tony Scanga. Tipton was mugged twice and egregious D holding and pass interference on the 2nd. Yale was driving and stalled out. That proved to be the telling sign of how this day was to go.
That’s also when you brought in Nolan to relieve Griffin. You threw off Griffin’s timing at that point.
Quite a bit of rust that hopefully was cleaned up with the first game in nearly 2 years. There were some hopeful bright spots but too much inconsistency on both sides of the ball
Don’t understand why Reno went back to O’Conner after Grooms put together a good drive which resulted in a field goal. That turned out to be their only points of the 2nd half. I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of Grooms next week .
I really thought, and expected Yale to go for it on 4th and 1 on their own 40 in the 4th quarter. With the game tied.
Yes, but what QB would you have wanted in for that play?
Grooms.!!
You want to know why yale would not go for it on 4 down The offense line sucks. No running game to think of. All the running game was to the outside could not get anything between the guard and center.Someone said the line was soft what do you think now The offense line better get better in the next few weeks or its going to be a long season .RITE AID MAN
I agree the offensive line played poorly today. More the reason you need to go with the most mobile QB.
I never understood why O’Conner was Rookie of the Year in 2018, when he lost two of the three games he started. As for the OL, it doesn’t matter how big they are if they are not MOBILE.
They’re OLine was superb
I thought the Yale defense played pretty well considering Holy Cross is a talented team and had the advantage of 2 games under their belt as well as a spring football schedule. The sputtering offense was the main reason for today’s loss. This afternoon we saw how much Yale will miss the outstanding skills of Messrs Rawling, Shofi and Klubnik.
I thought Dudek was underutilized. He ran the ball 15 times, mostly in the first half, but did not catch a single pass and he has always been a good receiver coming out of the backfield.
Did I miss an injury?
Offense needs to find an identity fast. Qb 1 missed some throws but he should get better. I’ve heard a lot about replacing Reed, JP and Kurt but I think the hardest thing to replace is than line that was led by Dieter. However the D was solid. I thought we played Nickle a lot on defense. Which caused our secondary to make lot of plays after 6 yards
Well, after 665 days .it was good to be back at the Bowl. After not playing for that amount time, has to be debilitating.
Coaching has to shoulder most of the blame as well. Not a fan of platooning Qb’s at all. It ruins the rhythm of play. You had success and you put someone else in. Then you lost momentum. Confidence and emotion and timing was off.
Special teams was way outta sink. Rouse playing out of position poor decision making. Letting the ball drop bouncing and extra 10 to 25 yards down the field. Put him back on defense, bring him in on special packages, you need Patrick Nauert, on the DLINE.!! You need to create a push, Holy Cross gouged the D on the ground. Linebackers and Db’s were good.
First yale game that was terrible. Where was all the offense they had when theyplayed brown a few weeks ago. Holy Cross is a very good team and there defense ate up the yale offense line very disappointed with their play. Reno should of put the second unit in they might of played better. Also play one OB let him get the fell of the game you have to have chemistry with the wr and te that did not happen sat Reno should use HOLY CROSS playbook on offense there offense was very aggressive with different blocking schemes on almost every play. No creativity with are offense could not get any running up the middle rb had to run outside all day.Grooms might be the better OB can run and throw and the players may respond to him better. just saying this not to cause any problems .We have other QB they might get there feet wet to. Defense was not that much better they struggled with the run and rushing the OB secondary was ok. Poor coaching reno should of went for it at 4-1 game over. RITE AID MAN
Hopefully the inexperienced interior OL will learn fast, they are a young group seeing the field for the first time including a freshman. Some obvious mistakes with LBs getting sacks untouched on crucial 3/10 plays.
QB16 under pressure constantly so very tough to get anything going hence giving Grooms a shot to use his legs which had some success.
D made some good stops, HC passing game almost non-existent other than one bomb which lead to a TD. Not sure why every year seem to struggle with very mobile QBs?
Read the Hartford Courant article on Yale football. Reno thinks the Saints are the end all. Grooms is like Tayson Hill and Griffin OConner is like drew Brees. ? No they are not Tony. !!
Nolan Grooms is Nolan Grooms and Griffin O Conner is is Griffin O Conner.!! OMG!! You doomed your team. Just let them play and stop over thinking of everything.!! Thanks for shutting down practices . You over zealous prat.!! Hope you and Vicky are happy with 3,972 fans in a 61,000 seat stadium.!!! JH and Rote Aid Man or correct. I’ll be watching CCSU and SHU.
Well one weekend in the books some teams looked good some bad. My take on the teams is harvard is the team to beat could be the top team in the league. Harvard offense and defense are special .Very talented team they play brown next sat they may dominated this team also.Princeton looked good also they will be fighting for first place to.Penn third good running backs .Yale better find and offense and one OB and DUDEK cannot win games by himself.Columbia fifth same as penn very good running backs could surprise.Brown very good QB this team will upset one or two teams Cornell this team will embarrass someone watch out Yale . RITE AID MAN
What about Dartmouth?
Sorry did not see Dartmouth play will post soon
Sorry about that i was off my meds this afternoon. Just saw Dartmouth What a play book they throw ever thing at you.Jet sweeps passes to the backs bubble screens you name it. Tough team to defend there already in mid season form. Harvard 1 Princeton 2 Dartmouth 3Penn 4 Yale 5 Columbia 6 Brown 7 Cornell 8 Time will tell. RITE AID MAN
Gentlemen; crusaders were a well coached solid football team. That being said are blue was in a position to win . Factors which contributed to the loss included but not limited to; poor decisions fair catching a punt on the 5 yard, running the kick off out of the end zone with 48 seconds left, poor tackling specially in the first half, poor coaching decision not to go on fourth and one in the fourth-quarter, and vanilla play calling throughout the game. One bright spot Mr. Grooms gutty drive remains to be seen if he has the arm strength and accuracy to deliver the ball more than 25 yards down the field. If so, being may very well end up as the signal caller. Suffice to say room for improvement on the offensive and defensive lines. Hopefully, there will be a market improvement against the big red this Saturday.
Gonna be a rainy day on Saturday. I give the edge to Cornell. Yale needs a lot more than luck .
