After the cancellation of remaining winter and spring sports, the NCAA has announced a ban on in-person recruiting until at least April 15th.
We have not seen an official announcement regarding the cancellation of Spring Ball, but with students not returning to campus this semester and the closure of Payne Whitney Gymnasium, there is simply no hope of seeing the Bulldogs in the Bowl this spring. Some SEC schools have been hosting football practices, although the conference will not allow spring games.
The loss of spring practices is devastating to the 2020 Bulldogs as we needed all the time possible to improve timing between our quarterbacks and receivers given the graduation of Yale’s terrific trio. The offensive line, defensive line, linebackers and defensive backs had to fill holes and develop young talent to compete. Now, this will simply be a year of stunted growth.
Other Ivy foes such as Harvard and Dartmouth will not be as affected as Yale by the loss of spring practices. Both Harvard and Dartmouth return key components of their offenses and you know Buddy will find creative ways to roll out an All-Ivy roster of 5th year seniors.
Following in the footsteps of Florida State University, Yale’s Men’s Basketball program should urge Connecticut legislators to declare Yale as the 2020 National Champion.

Thanks Ray. I loved Zack Haaland on film, especially his running ability, but those stats from Cole Hagen are absolutely incredible! I think he will be the starting QB of the future. It’s great to have so many talented options at QB. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Zack Haaland moved to RB like Mike Stewart was back in the 80’s.
Ha! I loved Mike Stewart, he was a cool guy. So was Mike Curtin, the QB of that time — helluva guy who became an MD in Utah. Met these guys thanks to being a sportscaster at WYBC.

To Victoria Chun when are we going to start working on our indoor practice facility for our sports teams. We have a lot of room on central ave across from Yale bowl.Even better behind the baseball field that would be great. Please look into this we do not want to start playing catch up with the other ivy teams, Saw Dartmouth new facility last night looks great. How about lights for the bowl too Thank You Walt Yale Blue and all the fans.
If you read her occasional e-mail posting, you get the idea that her concept of the job is to be a constantly smiling cheerleader! Why do we need this?
We dont
WE DON’T! If you follow her on any social media, you may vomit. Her behavior is that of a young girl trying to fit in while showing off. Not very becoming of how the Ivy League should be represented. How soon can she be replaced?

How long before Yale , folds it’s card table . Under the new Colgate athletic Dept. Death March…..
I will admit that I am not a big fan of the new AD and some of the things she has done on game day at the Bowl. Despite that, Yale athletics have been pretty successful on the field this past year IE. football, basketball, etc.
I attribute that to .Beckett, than anything she has done. Think about it.
I attribute all the success to TB also. She came into a turnkey situation.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.. She screwed the pooch. After Covid 19 Yale football will never be the same. Play football in the spring. Take a year off start in 2021
If Yale football will never be the same after Covid 19, neither will any of the other Ivies be the same. We are all in the same boat. The most immediate losses due to the virus are to the lacrosse team and the crew, both of which had great opportunities to win not only an Ivy Championship but also a national championship.
Wow, rediculous statement. So very selfish… Say hi to Donald Trump.
I was surprised to read in actor Brian Dennehy’s obit today that he played football for Columbia in the late ’50s.
3 LACROSSE players, transferring outta Yale. Burlace and upcoming freshman. Is headed to Maryland, 2 seniors Morrill captain and Cotler are leaving as well.
Thank you for coming to Yale. Hope all is well for your future.
Why would they want to leave Yale and one the most successful coaches in the U.S. and a team that is nationally ranked every year?

Hi Ray:
Great to have you back!
All the best,
L et V
I have tried many times to contact Vicky Chun, Regarding patent infringement. Against BYU in using Yale’s Block Y on the side of they’re Football helmet.
She if she picks up on that. Give BYU a ceased and desist. On this situation.
Hey some good news. Paul Atkinson one of the stars from last year’s basketball team we’ll be coming back.
That’s great about Atkinson and hoops. And congrats to OL Dieter Eislen ’20 for signing as free agent with Bears.
But what about Rawlings, Shofti, Klubnik? I will be stunned if none of them get any pro shot at all.
Something happened with Rawlings and the post season shrine game. He never played. That may have hurt his chances.
Gentlemen; to a certain extent this reminds me a little of the war years. A time. When players came and went . They should make the fight for many of the positions interesting giving the incoming freshmen a real chance to prove themselves early.
Do you think that its possible that some conferences like the Ivy league could cancel the 2020 season while the big boys (SEC, Big 10) go forward?
Maybe the Ivies should designate Hanover and Ithaca as campuses where the eight teams could shelter in place.
I am unable to access the Yale football Twitter account. HELP!
Why? I just checked, and it is up & running. Go into the search bar, and search several key words, and look under PEOPLE. Keep trying.
Jackson Morrill, has chosen U. Denver to finish his career in LAX. Kid should have been able to finish at Yale .
But Ithe Ivy League sucks in it’s out look on athletics. To bad ,but good luck it was great while it lasted.

As I was contemplating whether or not we will have a 2020 season ( I sure hope so ) and thinking back to the fun season we just had, I got to thinking about Yale football’s success in seasons ending with the number 9 since the formation of the Ivy League.
Yale has won Ivy titles in 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999, and 2019. Only in 1959 ( the year that began with 5 shutouts) and 2009 (4th and 22) did Yale not win a title.
Years ending in zero have not been as prolific despite the geat undefeated 1960 team and the 1980 outright champions. Hopefully the 2020 team will add to this legacy.
Interesting. Another interesting tidbit is Yale Football finished the decade with 59 wins, which is third in the Ivy League behind Harvard (74) and Dartmouth (70).

Also post WWII in presidential election years Yale almost always beats Harvard when a Republican is elected president (1952, 1956, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000, 2016). Harvard beats Yale when a Democrat is elected (1948, 1964, 1992, 1996, 2008, 2012). The only exceptions to the trend are 1960, 1976 and 2004. 1968 was a tie.
Saw in the ILSForum , that the Ivy League is alledging to be cancelling the Fall sports schedule for 2020
Saw this post but can not find any information supporting this claim. Hope it is not true!
Yale OL, should be in a couple of days
With the Boston Marathon cancelling its mid-September postponement date, I can’t see how Ivy League football – or any football – can go on. They have already missed spring practice. When can they schedule pre-season practice? It won’t be until July when students will be told whether they will be doing online classes beginning August 31.
Maybe the July announcement re students returning will include plans for the football team.
I hope the July announcement can include that. If they’re concerned about insufficient pre-season practice, the Ivy teams could wipe the non-conference games and just play each other starting around October 10th.
No season would really blow. I want to see Zane Dudek running wild like he did as a frosh. Next year’s seniors deserve to play.
I like that idea of playing only Ivies if restrictions limit practice time. We are already at a disadvantage playing non-conference teams that have two games under their belts before Yale. Although I have to admit Yale usually beats them.
Interesting article on Nolan Grooms. Yale is blessed to have two strong options to replace Rawlings at QB. I was really impressed with Grooms play last season in limited action. You need to register to read the article but it’s free.

YALE FOOTBALL RECRUITS–2020 28 PLAYERS.
LISTED ON THE YALE FOOTBALL TWITTER.
What happened to Sean Guyton and Damian Anderson? Will they be replaced?
These might be painful Memories for Princeton fans, but they were happy times for us Yale fans.
http://www.princetontigersfootball.com/2020/06/the-most-painful-losses-in-princetons-ivy-era-history/
I saw that on the Ivy site. I thought of two more that I personally considered devastating for Princeton. Being a nice guy I didn’t rub it in on the Ivy board.
Yale 17 Princeton 14 in 1969. A late Harry Klebanoff field goal won it for Yale. Princeton’s only Ivy loss. Luckily they recovered and buried Dartmouth the next week to give Yale a piece of the title.
Yale 28 Princeton 21 in 1983 Yale’s only win that year. Not a good Princeton team, but losing to your biggest rival when they hadn’t won a game has to be painful. Or embarrassing.
Could also add Yale’s 27-24 win in 1984. Yale stopped Princeton on a 4th and goal with 86 seconds left. Yale then drove 98 yards and scored the winning TD on a 14 yard pass from Curtin to Moriarty with just five seconds left on the clock.
Could even go with this year’s 51-14 Yale win over 18th ranked Princeton at Princeton. That must have been pretty painful for a Princeton fan to watch. Good Times!
Of course Yale has its share of painful losses to a Princeton. 1981, 2000 and 2006 come to mind. Took me nearly 40 years to be able to watch the 1981 Yale- Princeton highlights that loss hurt me so bad.
I was at WYBC in ’84 and knew Mike Curtin, Kevin Moriarity, and CB Mike Tjarksen. Cool guys one and all and the Princeton and Harvard wins were awesome (beat the Johnnies up north after a 14-0 1st quarter deficit).
When the Tigers had the lead and goal to go, LB Carmen Ilaqua told the defensive huddle “It’s a matter of pride now.” I.e. victory seemed impossible but they were determined to hold ’em, they did and a miracle ensued. I still have a T-shirt with a ironed-on Yale Daily News photo of a triumphant Curtin after that game. Mike went on to be an MD in Salt Lake City.
My freshman year, 1953, after six years of Princeton domination, we won a huge upset 26-24, after Princeton led 17-0 at the half.
Probably the game that hurt most was Yale’s “Iron Man” 7-0 upset in 1934.
Princeton was undefeated, and Yale was a little better than mediocre. That game in which Yale played only eleven players throughout cost the Tigers a trip to the Rose Bowl. Columbia was picked instead and won that infamous upset of Stanford.
I’m with Anonymous on the primacy of the Iron Men’s victory in ‘34. It was the only loss that Fritz Crisler’s Tigers suffered over 3 seasons, 1933-35.
A bit of football ancient history: Columbia received the Rose Bowl bid at the end of the 1933 season, not ‘34. (The Alabama team with Don Hutson and Bear Bryant went to Pasadena after the ‘34 season.)
Princeton whipped Columbia in ‘33, and would have gone bowling save for an agreement among HYP not to play in bowls. That agreement supposedly cost Yale an invite to the Rose Bowl after the 1916 season (Brown got it instead), though Harvard’s team sneaked off to Pasadena after the 1920 season to the mortification of the administration in Cambridge. But we all know that Yale Men and Tigers too are more honorable than the Cantabs.
Harvard made the right call. Not to participate in bowl games was a stupid agreement.
Please use this link to vote for the Yale-Harvard Football game as game if the year. They are up against a Princeton’s women’ Field Hockey and it’s very close.

With Dr. Fauci’s concern over the NFL reopening, what chance does the Ivy League have?
If there’s no 2020 season, it’d be insane for the Ancient Eight to not grant everyone an addition year of eligibility REGARDLESS of whether they’ve completed their academic requirements.
However, I’m not optimistic. What choice do we fans have? Root for UConn? BC? The Vermont Catamounts? UNH or Southern CT? Nope, gotta stick with the Elis.

When we finally do get back to playing football, how about if we tried a city championship series one year instead of the usual roster of patriot League opponents?
I could see a schedule that included UNH, Southern Connecticut, and perhaps Central Connecticut. It might help inspire greater local interest in attending games in the Bowl.
I don’t think that the University of Vermont Catamounts still play football.
I would love to see something like that! Add SHU to the mix! Ideally, I would love to see New Haven and Sacred Heart appear on Yale’s schedule. I am probably in the minority, but I think something like that would be a lot more interesting then playing teams like Lehigh, Richmond, etc.
If Yale lost to any one of these schools, it would be utter humiliation.
