I can’t recall being more disappointed with Yale’s efforts in a football game since a losing Harvard team came into the Bowl in 1979 and soundly whipped an undefeated Yale eleven.
I will open the comments:
Fire Reno. Fire him and his entire staff right now, clean house from top to bottom, front and back. That was as dismal and ugly, as discouraging and demoralizing a display out there today as I have seen in over 50 years of watching Yale football. From the opening whistle, the team looked to have no fire, no passion, no direction, no clue, no chance. And that falls on the coaches. It isn’t even a case anymore of Yale losing to better teams: Good teams can lose to better teams; everyone can accept that. What is NOT acceptable is that these days Yale gets horsewhipped, manhandled and humiliated by better teams, and it has happened with startling and depressing frequency during Reno’s Reign of Terror.
He had a good year in 2014 with a record-setting transfer quarterback with an NFL-caliber running back behind him; he won a championship in 2017 with defense so good even HE and his chump staff couldn’t screw it up. Other than that it’s been mostly maddening, middling, middle-of-the-pack mediocrity. Supposedly the man is a world-class recruiter, but either that skill is oversold or he simply can’t handle and develop the talent he recruits because the results on the field seem to belie his (so-called) recruiting acumen. Of course, an awful, AWFUL, lot of it also seems to wind up on the sidelines eventually, on crutches or in slings, limping and gimping around like the wounded in a triage unit on the Sands of Iwo Jima,. Another hallmark of the Reign of Reno.
Don’t want to analyze this or scrutinize that. Dartmouth exposed Reno and his charges as pretenders today, and they will most likely finish in the middle of the pack, as usual, able to drub the Cornells and Browns of the world, but woefully incapable of competing against the HPD Triumverate of Titans.
Bring it to a close, please. For the love of God, put us out of our misery, Fire Reno. If not now, then do it at season’s end. This program will be stalled, stunted and stagnant otherwise
This is Yale. We’re not USC (who hasn’t fired their incompetent coach yet). Unfortunately, we’ll be stuck with Reno and staff for many 5-5 seasons for a long time. Can’t imagine a scenario where this administration does anything.
Well, maybe so, but one can always rant and rail and hope. Maybe there is a yearbook photo out there somewhere with Reno in blackface. That should do the trick.
Sick joke, I know. But that was a sickening game.
You have to wonder how the media picked Yale as # 1 in the Ivy League. Also, what has happened to all those stars Yale was supposed to have, particularly with all those seniors among them? How can the coaching be so good one year (2017) and so bad the next two years?
Well.. at least the new athletics administration should have fewer and fewer fans to worry about their strict enforcing of no re entry policy and fenced in parking lots.
Fire. Reno he sucks , , Chun while your at it . she is and. Asshole too.
I don’t think the coaching was so good in 2017; I think the talent was so good the coaching couldn’t mess it up. I’ve been a critic of Reno for some time, on a number of levels. I don’t think he is a very good head coach, I don’t think engages well with the student body or the alumni, and I don’t think he deals well with the press. He is a very strong recruiter, which tells you what he should be doing. So, what do you do?
Probably nothing, because Chen, as a new AD, isn’t going to fire him, and Solovey doesn’t have the backbone to do anything.
So I think we have to be prepared for a long time of frustration, watching the Eli be mediocre.
Boy you hit the nail on the head.I fell sorry for the young men on this team. So much talent being wasted by a coaching staff that has there head up there ass.You put this talent on a team like Brown Columbia Cornell even Penn and see what there record who be. It comes down to coaching and we are the laughing stock of the ivy league that was a disgrace to yale football. The players have had it you can see in there body language during the game and after. I hope all you people you think Reno is a god take a good look and see what he done to this team. Im sorry to say after this game today im a Yale football fan. To all yale football fans write on this board and tell your true felling about yale football and coach Reno and this staff. This cannot go on no more there has to be a change at the end of this season I do not want to here from people to come for one game year and think they know yale football. All you people who have enjoyed yale football for the last fifty year make a statement to save Yale football time is running out.One last thing Vicky Chun you have taken the fun out of watching yale sports Walt Yale Blue
gentlemen; this is the worst prepared team and effort in more than 60 years. It is extremely sad to see our blue squad butchered at the hands of the Indians whose receivers ran wild in the secondary. Whether these coaches have the ability to rally our blue squad for the remainder this season remains to be seen.
Yale comes into every game playing not to lose. The players look despondent, without energy and poorly prepared. They need coaches who can inspire confidence and a desire to go out and win! Tony talks a lot about the “culture” of his teams. I don’t know what he means, but it isn’t a winning culture.
Sad. Just sad.
Everyone based our favorite status the last two years based on the Talent, which has been there and still is
But what happens when we face a good team in the Ivy League? Is it the coaching? Must be..
Another year of mediocrity
As I expressed prior I do believe it is time for a change in the coaching staff starting at the top. I truly felt when Tony came on board that he would be great and motivating the team. He’s certainly recruited fantastically . But as a head coach he just doesn’t have the tools not only for himself but for the people he a points around him
Please Yale let Tony’s kids go to school there but get him out and get someone in who truly knows what they’re doing as a head coach
Easy to knock the coaches when the players miss their pass coverage assignments.. Hard to blame the players when our offense is futile.
Dartmouth crushes Yale again. How are those closed practices.working out for you Tony.
Yale , won’t have to worry about all the.new policies.. No reentry, can’t bring in you’re own food and drinks, $5 handbag, charging little kids for admission. Yale averaging 5,500 in attendance. Makes me laugh, if you only knew what you have or should I say HAD.. Trashed make the Yale Bowl a museum.
To coach Reno thanks for closing the practices you saved us from watching this horrible offense play sand lot football. I watched the game sat and i knew where 90 percent of the plays where going. How the hell are these players going to block the defensive line when there already in the holes. No wonder the line stinks. Every player is either all ivy or all american they could be if they had an offense to play with. Start a new offense line put if you can new plays save the season your running out of time and your jobs.
Hard to know even where to start with the mudslingers on this board.
Do I agree with many of Reno’s choices? No. I disagree with closed practices and the unwillingness to share progress (or lack thereof) with the public. Additionally, I have a lot of questions pertaining to the number of injuries we seem to have year in and year out.
That being said, I don’t think people posting on this board realize how good Dartmouth is this year. I didn’t either, but I fully expect Dartmouth to go undefeated in 2019 As referenced in the pregame note by the moderators, Dartmouth returned the core of a defense that very easily could have beaten a historic Princeton team last year. Not only do they have a once in a decade team, they have a once in a decade team that lost bitterly to a 10-0 Princeton team – these guys have unfinished business.
This was a bad loss, but the level of vitriol being leveled at a bunch of kids who are nonscholarship and totally unappreciated (or outright targeted) by their classmates is unacceptable.
As of the end of 2009, Teevens had an overall record of 35–63–2 as the head coach at Dartmouth. He hasn’t lost more than 2 games in a year since 2014.
Ivy success requires consistency, and it requires trust from the administration.
Reno’s championship in 2017 means he can win. We are not out of this year’s run. We have one loss. We’ll see how the program responds.
It is true that these athletes are scorned by many of their classmates as undeserving admission to Yale. So; will they suck it up and show off their talent or snivel ? Go Eli !
We are not mad at the kids where mad at the brand of football Reno is putting out. We have some of the best talent in the ivy league and where not getting our money worth. How can anyone who writes on this board not see this. This is the truth high schools who play football have better offensive plays then Yale. And no one on this board can see this whats the matter with all of you.Ido not care about Reno i care about the kids give them something to play with not this crap Cahill is dishing out.
Exactly the kids are great. Yale has a proud tradition. Give them coaches who can coach them up.
Not this same plays from 8 years ago.Reno needs to hire a QB , OC and DB coach……
Good thing were not playing Sacred Heart they would kick our ass.
Well, we’ll, well… wouldja lookit dis? Old Blues out for a lynching. For 3 weeks, you’ve had nothing but praise. Then, the man loses one game, albeit badly, to a Dartmouth team that is on fire, and you want his head.
You people show as much loyalty as the politicians your school has been spewing out for 50 years, a la Hillary “Benghazi” Clinton.
What a stupid comment uncle Dick. That’s probably why they call you uncle DICK
This isn’t about one game with Reno this is about his whole tenure at being at Yale. He has shut out the fans, the alumni and everyone else around him the man seems to be paranoid.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Yale seniors should get there consensus about playing football at Yale with no names attached so there could be a truthful Evaluation of what is happening in this program. The kids always know best and they always will.
Well said 1701, hey Dick getta life..
Guys remember this Yale can win against the so so teams but they cannot win the games that count.H P P D The kids deserve better put there is not much on the table to help them. Yale may win 2 more games and thats it. Then on to next year another joke if he not dismissed.
Gentlemen; interesting comment about the Indians coach as to how he has developed players which were not highly recruited including mr. gerbino Who has developed into one of the best dual threat quarterback’s in the Ancient eight. If he were a member of our blue squad coach Reno now in his senior year would probably have him at fourth string tight end..
Now that Tony and his staff have screwed up the Dartmouth game and the talk of him being fire at the end of the season will hurt recruiting. I would think a lot of good football recruit will leave Yale soon. The ship is sinking fast Reno you have no one to blame but your self and vicky. The changes she has made out at Yale bowl will be the death of Yale football. No one goes to the games now the bowl is dead .You want to know how bad it is miss vicky see how many people are in the bowl at kick off what a joke. What you did to us old football fans moving us from central ave to the other side of the bowl to make more money what where you thinking. What your doing vicky is chasing people away from yale football.Charging 5 dollars for kids to goto the game come on vicky get with the program. You better have the national guard on call for the harvard game your going to need them and a first aid tent. All this because of your stupid you know what.
$5….Dartmouth charged $17….and lost a number of parent names on the list….so $34…..glad I bought my license and $20 to get a game program. So the lanyard around my neck with the name of my kid and the same name on my license, but they wouldn’t honor that….you know, I was trying to get over on Dartmouth…….
The grass isn’t alway greener….I heard this has happened before…ticky, tack crap…
Lucky if they get 40,000 for the Harvard game. Vicky you had a turn key situation. You didn’t have to do anything. Do yourself a favor , before you implement changes . Talk to local people. Don’t be a lemming just because The NFL and Notre Dame are doing things. Stupid
Hawk . I don’t give a damn. About your once every 2 years of a petty fiasco. Look whose whining.
I’m talking about a ridiculous implementation of rules that never should have been. Introduced.
New Haven county is not affluent
People don’t want to be harassed. The food selections are horrid and expensive.
But you have no reference on that. You don’t have a history of how it used to be. Or for that fact how it should be.
So before you start to lecture on a matter that you cant understand
People are not going to attend a sporting event. When they are gettong turned away at the gates. For items that they have been bringing for decades……. No reentry no food or drinks or binoculars.
Enjoy those 4,000 people in attendance. Vicky is and outsider just like YOU…
JH, You don’t give a damn? Then get a life, there are 6 other days in the week, what do you do bitch to people all things Yale football. I was pointing out that Yale is not the only Ivy team that has problems with my lone experience in Dartmouth.
BUT THE CONSTANT
4K attendance
clear bags
can’t come back in ($5 at halftime if you need to….that’s $10 vs $17 at Dartmouth…unlimited exit/entry)
No dixie land band

UCONN can use some (bitchless) fans….go and report back
and I “don’t give a damn” what you have to say…..good luck with that stroke you’re going to have if you keep up at the current pace. Sometimes $5 clear bags aren’t worth it
More important than attendance – is Rawlings out for the season? If so, so is Yale.
Did Rawlings get injured? Had not heard that
He was taken out of the Dartmouth game with an injury. So was our captain.
Hawk, no stroke gonna happen here asshole. I let my thoughts be known. I don’t care about other institutions either. Learn to comprehend..
You’ll never get it. Actually. Yale doesn’t either . Enjoy playing in a relic of insignificance and irrelevance.
To bad for Yale , Its ust another nasty 4 letter word now.
Sorry to about Rawlings Howlland , Alston and all the other football players being hurt. Fire Reno and CHUN.
Asshole?
When people resort to name calling, they’ve lost the argument…..
Ha, Ha,Ha
Ok asshole , who told you that. .? Your guardian. LOL . like I said before. . you’ll be gone in 6 games .enjoy the rest of the season.
Here comes your STROKE. …
I was watching game online and did not hear announcers say Rawlings went out with an injury. I thought he was taken out for O”Connor after a rough first half.
Injury.
Actually both Qbs got injured.
Hawk I love that your kid is getting a world-class education and being able to play for Yale football. I don’t think you understand the fans of Yale football Who have been dedicated to the program for 50 years plus. Will you still be a fan after your son leaves the program? Most likely not Why would you having no interest after your son has graduated.Your son on the other hand might have an interest going forward only because he would be an alumni.
I have been going to these games since being a young lad starting from the early 60s and have witnessed the decline in this program over the last 30+ years I can appreciate your defense to the program because your son is on the team, whose parent wouldn’t.
I think you need to back up and realize we are not for years and out we are here and have been here for eternity it seems. Again all the best to your son and hopefully It gets all the attention going forward from graduating from this World renowned University
I just do not think you understand the frustration from the all-time fans
God bless you and your son and hope all goes well for you going forward
Here, here!
People always blame who they know and not what they know. Losing sucks but being a loser sucks even more. Tony Reno is the best example of commitment, hard work and dedication that this program has had in a long time. He may lose a game, he may lose a recruit or he may lose the support of a few self serving parents and fans, but he is never a loser. Those that post negative shit on here absolutely have no ability to think past the end of their nose. What effect do you think your comments have on young men, fans and coaches who go out there and sacrifice every single day? What have you done today, last week, last month in your own miserable life. Exactly, f*** all! If you have nothing positive to contribute … no one needs you or cares to hear from you!
