Yale 30 Cornell 24

Delighted Yale won, but why was it so close? This should have been an easy victory. Only Brown would be below them in the Ivy League.

Cornell has a veteran team — one that whipped Princeton and Harvard last year, and played creditably last week on the road at Delaware, a FCS powerhouse. And Cornell was playing before a homecoming crowd. The Big Red, in short, are no pushover, esp at Schoelkopf.

Once again, penalties hurt us on both sides of the ball. Over 100 yards in total.

Also, Yale played beat up. Dudek played sparingly due to, I believe, an ankle injury. Lamar must be hurt because Reno went with the FR RB, Spencer Alston, for most of the game. (Alston played well.) Henson and Rouse were out. FR played in their stead at CB and WR. Fortunately, Shofhi was back in action, and made his presence felt.

Positives:

Offense put up 428 yards and isn’t even close to running on all cylinders. Rawlings has been solid. Yale started 2 drives on their own 12 and Rawlings managed to get them out of trouble both times. The ability to reverse field position has always been one of his strengths. Yale rarely punts from deep in their own territory.

Another very good RB stepped up.

Shohfi and Klubnik played well.

No turnovers

Galland – the kicking game was very good

Negatives:

Too many big plays allowed on D although they did play better in the 2nd half.

No turnovers caused

No third down conversions in the 2nd half on offense.

Injuries. Losing Dudek for any period of time would be crippling even as good as Alston played

10 MORE PENALTIES

gentlemen; gritty win for our blues squad playing without many first stringers. hats off to rawlings, shohfi, klubnik and alston who saved the day offensively despite another afternoon of poor play calls at inopportune times. our defense dug in at crucial moments despite lapses in tackling ability which gave the cornelians two touchdowns. penalties including two personal fouls on one play need to be abated. all in all a much needed win.

First half tackling was atrocious. Much better in second half. Lack of full speed tackling in practice?

A much needed win, really need to clean up the penalties.
Lack of good offense Play calling with all this talent is a shame.

Love that the team plays with such great emotion however tackling and mental errors need to be addressed

I think we need to be a little bit more realistic regarding what the team can do on offense and defense and rather than fault the play calling. Lamar, Rouse, Lock were out due to injuries and Dufek was injured in first half and ineffective after his early two tds. That’s a lot of missing fire power in those four, esp without Dufek at 100%. Defense will take time to become better with so many freshman and sophs now in the starting lineup due to graduation and injuries. We were spoiled last year by more than a half a dozen seniors who displayed some of the hardest tacking Yale has seen in many years, including Foye who is now playing lb for the Falcons.
That kind of talent doesn’t come around often and now we have to be patient and see how well and quickly the younger players develop their skills.

There I go again misspelling Zane’s last name – sorry Zane, blame it on my age. I can’t even spell “tackling” correctly anymore.

Hard to take – only two games and the two top running backs are injured. This injury situation is really getting to the point where one wonders what good does it do to get all these top recruits when you know they are going to get hurt. Sooner or later it will be harder to get top recruits because of it.

Congratulations to the Yale Football team on closing out the game with a win.
Injuries are part of the game, you don’t know WHEN it’s going to happen.? This is why you have the TEAM practice. Just in the off chance a injury occurs.!!
This is a young team. A lot of new people cutting their teeth in these 2 games. They responded very well and “WON THIS GAME”….
No one on this board is a part of The this team No one works their tails off harder than these young men do. The coaches and supporting staff put in countless hours. They should be commended for the job that was done the past 2 weeks. This week the better team won.
Now going forward, as long as this team improves, doesn’t get blown out . I’ll be very pleased that they win IVY LEAGUE GAME’S. OOC games are a bonus. Things to work on and get ironed out.

Agree. Only conference games matter in this league. With the current injuries, I expect Yale to scale back against Maine and Mercer and allow younger players to gain experience no matter what the final outcome.

I don’t think lack of full-speed tackling in practice is the culprit. Dartmouth doesn’t tackle at all in practice, and held Holy Cross without a first down for 45+ minutes. Far from what our D was able to accomplish, unfortunately…

Reno is wrong this is not a young team.If you look at last year depth chart freshman so. jr. had a lot of playing time no excuse there.I think changing the coaches around has something to do with the play of the team. And when you run the same dam offense and you get your star running back hurt because the other team knows who getting the ball all the time. Shame on you. There was talk of running a new offense where is it. Maine will have a field day with yale offense. Y -defense to small up front to handle Maine off- line.Saw other ivy teams play sat. Yale know were as strong as Penn Dartmouth Princeton or Harvard at this time.Wish them luck next sat. P.S. start running a fullback in the offense it will only help you.

OF COURSE ITS A YOUNG TEAM.The majority are under class men who are getting the reps. They’ll be ready for the Ivy conference games
It is what it is, they’ll be battle tested with each game they play
Walking wounded will return and make this team that much better.

Agreed no matter how hard players play ultimately play’s are called by the coaches. There is so much talent on this team they should be ahead of where they are now despite the injuries. Injuries are unfortunate and part of the game hopefully this team will recover and steam roll forward.
