June 26th Updates

We are under three months to kickoff at Yale on September 21st versus Holy Cross. Last season’s second half collapse against the Crusaders set the tone for a disappointing 2018 campaign, but the Elis will be hungry for redemption in New Haven.

Reno and company snagged a pair of solid commits over the last few weeks:

Teo Falk is a 6-6.5, 235 lb. Defensive End from Sweden that had other offers from Temple, Penn, Towson, and UMASS.

Ben Mann is a 6-4, 205 lb. Tight End/Defensive End/Long Snapper from Manheim Township, Pennsylvania. Mann’s grandfather was a former Bulldog football player, so blue runs in his veins.

The annual Ivy League Media Day will be hosted at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol on August 15th.

Photographs posted on Facebook show that the Yale Bowl has officially been resurfaced. Will the new synthetic surface be an advantage for Yale given our team speed or will it lead to more devastating injuries that derail seasons? Only time will tell.

I would really love to see Yale play UConn again in football, but the stupid bowl counter rules are getting in the way. The game should qualify for the historical game waiver given the annual series between Yale and UConn which lasted over four decades from the 50’s to the 90’s.

UConn doesn’t have any business playing Yale. At this juncture in UCONN fight to develop its football program. Especially since they’re going independent.
Yale’s inability to go to the FCS Playoffs. If Yale was to grow a pair. ( BALLS) that is and start to play against others, That way they would be a more desirable opponent to UCONN and other FBS teams.

YALE ! LETS GET SOME RECRUITS FOR 2020 . PRINCETON HAS GOTTEN THREE IN THE PAST WEEK !

Yale dropped the UConn series because it was no longer competitive, and it certainly isn’t now. We are in different leagues and different levels, and it will not and should not change.

The point spread difference between UConn and Yale, from Jeff Sagarin ratings:

1998: 24.4
2003: 23.4
2008: 23.2
2013: 9.6
2018: -3.9 (Yale rated higher)

2014 Yale 49 -Army 43; UConn 21 – Army 35
2017 Yale 32 – Holy Cross 0; UConn 27 – Holy Cross 20

The gap between the strength of Yale and UConn football programs has diminished in recent years. It remains to be seen how this plays out in the future but if UConn is adding Lafayette and Central Connecticut, it seems a shame if Yale can’t be added to the Huskies schedule.

Why all this interest in UConn?. We have enough trouble beating Harvard, Princeton and Dartmouth.

Yale still needs to play 3 OOC games. Why not schedule one that is interesting to the local fans?

Plus if Yale doesn’t win the Ivy League having claim to being the best college football team in the state is a nice consolation prize.

Why not play CCSU or Sacred Heart instead of Uconn?

It’s not in Yale’s interest to play Uconn

YALE COMMIT:

MICHAEL LEONE OL 6′ 6” , 270 LBS. THE HUN SCHOOL PRINCTON , NJ. OFFERS FROM :

BUFFALO, CENTRAL MICHIGAN, UMASS, OLD DOMINION , TOLEDO ETC. HE WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE AT A RECENT YALE FOOTBALL CAMP.

gentlemen; a once great and traditional rivalry with the huskies should have been revived several years ago. why the sudden blockade time for some expedient action to put this rivalry back in play.

Boston Sunday Globe lists Ethan Coyle- Andover HS/Yale, “A three-sport captain, Coyle will play football at Yale. An offensive/defensive tackle, he won the Wendy’s Heisman for Massachusetts. He also wrestled and threw the shot put and discus. Coyle scored a 1590 on his SAT and finished with a 3.96 unweighted GPA. Off the field…”
If true, Wow! How did we winkle him away from H?

We winkle DL Ethan Coyle away from harvard but we lost a 4 star OB to them that sucks. Same old story out recruited again. Harvard again has recruited the best players in the league as of now. How do they do this year in and out even in basketball there over the top with talent. Will we every catch up thats the question .

Where are our 3 or 4 star OB. Not going to use any names but remember the last 3 star QB we recruited how that worked out.Come on coaches we want our share of great QB to.

ANON.
YALE OFFERED SOME PLAYERS. BUT I WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE IF ANY COMMITED —UNLIKE HARVARD

Not sure what’s going on with our recruiting. It’s supposed to be the strength of the current regime.
This fall’s senior class is very strong, but thereafter things look kinda iffy.

We should play UConn as long as they suck, then drop the series. They are FCS level after all.

And/or, play both UConn and UNH or SCSU. A likely loss and near-guaranteed win. I know a D2 school wouldn’t draw much, but at least there’s a local angle; better than the Lafayettes and Lehighs yet again. I’m glad we’re playing Mercer for a couple years.

Well I guess Steve Conn , The SID at Yale is having a nice summer..?
Hey Steve , get off your ass, and update the Yale Football site.!!!

I am afraid that there are no updates. Recruiting seems to be at a standstill, while Princeton (especially) and Harvard are picking up.
Anyone have an explanation?

MAYBE THAT IS THE REASON THAT THEY HAVE MADE OFFERS TO AT LEAST THREE QBS SO FAR.

GABRIEL SLEENHOF , D/E , 6 ‘ 4 ” . 255 LBS. RAVENWOOD HS.,
BRENTWOOD , TN.

NO updates since 5/2 , The Yale Athletics Football site. What’s the point.? Marketing has never been Yale’s strong suit. Unimaginative and boring.
Keep it up, 5,000 people on average at The Bowl..!!! Just flush it already

Two updates, but the same player. I think that we are behind schedule for us (and a lot behind Princeton, then Harvard) on commitments at this point in time.. What is the reason? PS: I agree with JH that the lack of information and enthusiasm directed to the fans – Yale alumns or not – will result in pathetic attendance at the Bowl. One
can’t keep showing crowds at games 40-50 years ago to recruit players who might be playing in front of far fewer fans today. Yale needs to make all kinds of efforts to excite the fan base, alums
and especially community!

BRUNO FINA . 3 *** OG . 6 ‘ 4 ” , 250 LBS. WILL CHOOSE AMONG THREE SCHOOLS. THEY ARE :

UCLA , BOSTON COLLEGE , AND YALE .

Isn’t part of the lack of information problem the New Haven Register? They care only about UConn!

Technically the New Haven Register is actually The Hartford Courant. The Courant bought out the New Haven Register 4 years ago.

Also The SID is in charge of maintaining and updating. Said program..!!
NOTHING….. WTH..!! Is it so hard ..? Maybe a change is in order.

The complete lack of information flowing about the football program is puzzling. We do continue to get the weekly tasteless, frantic solicitations from the Football Y Asdociation..
My understanding is Ray Tomkins House is being filled up with former Colgste administrators.

Pretty sad situation because we have a good team coming back if the staff gets the defense straightened out.

Sure would be nice to see the goings on of The Yale Bowl New Turf…? Sure would be nice to get to know about the New Class First Years…?
Very disappointed in the Yale Information office .

JH…..things are not good in RTH and that is part of the problem. The new AD is filling the offices with people who reported to her at Colgate. Nobody feels safe.

Tom Beckett predicted this would happen before his retirement was even announced.

Want to get the locals to the games?

Sell beer at the Bowl, the Giant games in days of old

You need to talk about this team. Start to build up the the team as a contender for The Ivy League Championship.
You need , To say that it’s a inexpensive day for the family. Bring your own food in. Unopened plastic bottles. Make a day of it. Talk to the players, coaches. Go pet Handsome Dan. (Walter) .!!!
I have so much more.. you’re gonna have to pay me.!!!
Beer , NOPE not after that lady, got killed at The Game..

84 days since the last update of anything on the Yale Athletics web site (Football )…
Great No Job SID..!!

Amy Chen says she “can’t believe she’s the Athletic Director at Yale.” I can’t either.

You want fans to watch Yale football try this. Free parking instead of 10 dollars to park on dirt Senior parking closer to the bowl.. Lower prices at the food stands. Be able to bring your own water bottle into the game to take your pills while your watching Yale football.

Y don’t give them to much.. But exactly correct.
Those hotdogs are horrible. Get Hummels..!!! Or Grote and Weigles…?

A word of defense. A bag of Yale Bowl peanuts for $3.00 is great. The creeps at Harvard Stadium do not sell peanuts. Could lead to severe case of peanuts envy on the part of the H fans.

YALE RECRUIT :

SHAUN GOLD WR , 6 ‘ 3 ” , 180 LBS. , MISSION VIEJO H.S., , MISSION VIEJO , CA.

Anyone seriously involved in sports knows how to bring crowds into your stadium, not hot dogs and peanuts:

1. WIN!
2. WIN!
3. WIN!!

Can our site monitor start a list of commits for 2020? We have a few. Our fellow Ivy competitors seem to be very proud of their initial recruits and post lists with every recruit updated on the Ivy
Sports blog, The least we can do is keep a running list on our own site, so that it looks like some Yale fans are interested,
PS: The matriculation status of all of our recruits has been known since May 1. It would be nice and encouraging to current and future recruits if our AD showed enough interest in them to release their bios.

Yes , if you win the fans will follow. But you also need to cater to your fans.
Putting out a better spread, with a higher degree of food and beverages, Things for the kids to do. Amenities absolutely would help. They have a wood fired pizza truck. When is it available. The Harvard game.? That’s it .!!!

Yes options are good..!!! 86 days since the SID did any thing on the Yale Athletics (Football) site…!!!

Let’s start small with the SID. The website has height and weight for many boys as they came as first years (now seniors). How hard is that. Hire a high school kid over the summer…they could have it all updated in a week.

What about the bricks outside of the stadium….last updated 7 or 8 years ago? All it takes is effort, makes no sense.

Thank you, Do It Correctly. Yale should take lessons from the outfit that owns the Savannah Bananas, a baseball team that, because of energetic marketing and witty promotions, sells out every game at a once mostly-empty stadium. Bring back the dixieland group!

YALE RECRUIT :

KADE BARNES , CB , 5 ‘ 10 ” , 170 lbs. , 4.53 40 : CYPRESS RIDGE H.S . HOUSTON ,TX.

Did Gabriel Sleenhof commit to Yale on 7/15? How come he doesn’t show up as a commit on 247 (he is rated)? Barnes already shows up as does a guy who committed to Penn yesterday!

I am absolutely appalled.. By the lack of courtesy and character of The Yale Sports Information. Fingers are pointing at Steve Conn….
All the Ivy League teams have been updating their boards.
Even Brown which is notoriously late or no info. But thank you Steve for doing the job that you do. (Crickets)…
In all my 52 years of watching Yale Football I have never seen anything, anything like I have witnessed this year….you are worthless…!!!!!!

What leads you to conclude Steve Conn is responsible.
The only communications coming from Yale are repetitious. identical fund solicitations.
There are problems in Ray Tomkins House far beyond the sports information office, which might be operating under severe controls.

So what’s the next step? Tear down the Bowl, after years of under attendance/ misuse?

Baloney…!!! Conn’s Babies are Football , Ice Hockey and Lacrosse…… It is his lifeline to inform, update and educate the Alumni, Students and General populous.. That is what a SID does… period he is the liaison…. Don’t tell me , Chun, or Reno are putting a gag order on this program. Get real man..?

For the past two months I have waited patiently as I have throughout the years of being a long time bulldog football fan. Never have I been more disappointed as I am now. JH and several other posters have expressed the same feelings
Truly crushes the heart and soul of a dedicated fan that seems to be almost nonexistent in these days. Why is it so difficult to post who is coming in the next year unless there are serious problems with not only the program but the administration itself. I am totally at a loss of expression
I love football I love bulldog football but after 50 years I’m done I can’t believe the people are actually paid salaries to say or do nothing like our current government things need to be changed. I know this team coming in this year has exceptional talent and unfortunately I don’t think I will support it anymore which truly breaks my heart. I can remember the New Haven register a.k.a. Hartford current speaking of such talents as Chuck Murcuin, Brian Dowling, Calvin hill, Jaron etc. etc. etc. Apparently the old days are certainly gone and it is truly a shame this was a program that brought football to where it is today I just do not understand.

All at the sports information department should be ashamed of themselves unless there is something we as fans do not know.
The only reason why I will attend a game this year is to see the new turf other than that you have lost another true blue good luck God bless truly is a shame

Many times, especially this century, I have said I will no longer support the program. Then I remember. It’s not the players fault and they are the ones who deserve my support.

gentlemen; to say the old days are gone is regrettably the understatement of the year.

WHAT HAPPENED TO BOOLA-BOOLA, THE LAST UPDATE, AND THE 50 PLUS COMMENTS THAT WENT WITH IT????
