Yale’s defensive game plan against Princeton:

STOP THE RUN

Result: the Tigers ended up with 489 rushing yards

Chew on that

Defensive coaches have got to go

Bye-Bye

Someone has to teach them how to tackle, right? I have never seen a worse tackling team at Yale. All hands, arms at best. Shoulders, forget it.

A lot of Yale’s passing success had to do with some phenomenal routes and catches from Klubnik, Shofi, and the other receivers. To capitalize on O’connor’s success in the future, Reno has to get some other top quality receivers. Rouse and Sandifer have potential, but they are not Klubnick and Shofi.

All of you – you cannot expect to beat a team that is simply superior to you at every position. And you can’t win a game throwing 4 – or was it 5 – interceptions!

What do 4 interceptions have to do with the defense’s inability to STOP THE RUN?

Was the QB playing defense? I must have missed that!

O’Connor had some rough spots today. But I commend that young man! He put bad throws in the rear view and kept battling! Yale offense put 43 points on the board against Princeton today! Without those missteps on offense, the outcome might have been different. No thanks to the non-existent defense!

The defense is a complete cluster. My family is embarrassed watching this team on ESPN. Like what the **** is wrong with these D coaches?

Mercifully, this season is almost over. Hallelujah! NEVER thought I would hate watching football so much.

They better get their act together in the offseason. Clean house.

gentlemen; to say we tackled poorly today would be the understatement of the year. the tiger halfbacks time and again made it into the secondary without being touched. it looked like our squad was playing without any linebackers. on the bright side another good performance by our freshman signal caller and dynamic duo at split end.

I also would not like to return to the era of a few years back when the offense set records, but the defense gave up more yards and points. We have a few defensive players who were highly recruited from top HS programs, what has happened to them?

First off the young qb had some ups and downs but that’s expected going against a top team in only his second game. But I don’t know what that was out there on Defense today. I don’t like singling out guys but the D line and backers were dominated. The Defensive coordinator is terrible at scheming. I don’t know what he is watching on film but his interpretation is off. The y have a lot to figure on D. Every week there have been Different Lb’s playing. I didn’t see Noah Pope until the second half today. He looked out of it, don’t know what was going on with him. He had been one of the bright spots. Safeties and corners have to get tougher. The defense as a whole has to improve. Coaching has to get Better. Only one game left this year but they need to get bigger, stronger and faster. All we heard all year was how young they were maybe next year will be better.

In my “Princeton Preview” comments I stated that our offense had the talent to score a lot of points and that if we could keep Princeton’s score to under 30 points, like Harvard did, we would win. Yale did score a lot of points but Princeton outscored us by 16. I guess I am a glass half full kind of person because what I saw was a game that started as a blowout (in less than 5 minutes after the game started) and turned into a scoring contest that we won after the first period. We began to outscore the Tigers when our young qb O’Connor got into his Brown game groove again and was breaking the single game passing record with the help of the outstanding wr Klubnik making incredible catches, The final score was far from the embarrassing result I expected after Rawling’s injury and after the defeat by Columbia. It was awful to have Rawlings out for the season but it led to the discovery of a terrific new talent at qb that we didn’t know we had. I believe if the defense had played at the same level as our offense, Mr. O’Connor’s record breaking day would have produced a huge win.

Sorry to monopolize the board with back to back comments but I just wanted to express my respectful disagreement with some of the criticism directed towards the coaching staff. First, as far as the complaint that the offensive schemes are not varied enough and certain talent is being underutilized – I have watched a lot of football over the decades and this is an oft expressed complaint by dissatisfied fans whether the coaching staff is led by Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, Carm Cozza or Vince Lombardi usually after a tough loss. As I have said before, Yale is using the same offensive game plan as last year’s championship team. It’s an offensive scheme that put 43 points on the board against arguably the best defense in the Ivys. Going into yesterday’s game opposing teams averaged 9 points of offense against Princeton. Last year Yale had the best defense and were led by the kind of talent that is rare in the Ivys and does not get recruited easily e.g. Foye Oluokin who is now a star lb for the Falcons in his rookie year and who by the way is about the same size as Princeton’s All American qb John Lovett. It seems a number of fans are now booing the defensive coordinator who had been hailed since Yale’s remarkable upset of Harvard in 2016 until the defense’s performance this season. In all fairness is it the defensive schemes or is it because Princeton had outsized talent this year on offense and defense and Yale and the other Ivys did not?

We are undersized on the defense side of the ball. Thats all areas. On offense our freshman QB is going to be great.Just wish he had more plays to work with.

Princetons offense and defense are on point. Not one team in the Ivy league could stop them. Princeton has alot of seniors starting. This team has been together for pretty much 3-4 years. They were strong in all aspects of the game. Yale has a young team. I don’t think they played so bad. Slow start, yes. D line didnt stop the run up the middle. Changes to cover the middle was made late in the game. All in all it was a good game. DBs are told not to turn to look at the ball.

Not looking for the ball is a recipe for pass interference and no interceptions. How is that working out?

For one game, maybe two, we had our defense on the field for a series or two and ready to line
up and be prepared for the next play. Against Princeton, we were again shuttling in entire D line and LBs who were STILL looking to the sidelines for positioning/scheme! Often they were barely set when the ball was snapped! Princeton was ready to roll and we were at best guessing/ trying to react. Just suggesting that this tactic may have contributed to the disappearance of our DL and LBs on Princeton’s 400+ rushing yards.

Agree, the whole D seems hindered by the slow indecisive communication from the sidelines. Yale has been hampered by this all season long. It must be extremely maddening to try and play football when the calls are arriving so late. This leaves our LB’s guessing and often way out of position to make stops. Yale is being simply out coached on D. Sadly 1 week isn’t long enough to correct it.

It was 42-7 in the first half and looked every bit as bad as that in person. There was not a defensive game plan…..it was a defensive fiasco with the players not set at the snap again.

Princeton Dbs jumped a couple routes as if they knew the plays.
On the bright side the players did rally and O’Connor is exceptionally skilled. We have to get much better on defense to compete next year for a title. The offense is loaded across the board and Dudek will have a full recovery with 8 weeks of rest and no surgery scheduled.

As alluded to by many posters the defense is a major concern. I still like our chances to out score the Crimson next week. But next year is also a question mark. Our secondary should be improved as well as our line backing core but where is the beef up front ? Tate Goodyear our highest ranked D-line recruit this year saw his first action this week and hopefully will be a much needed run stopper.

On the other side of the ball our Offense should be lethal next year. Every one is returning from an offense that is averaging close to 500 yards a game. With an additional year experience and a healthy Dudek , I expect our offense to put up some ridiculous numbers next year.

Guys you want yale better next year . To things we need one we need a new offensive coordinator scrap the spread offensive go with a fullback add the power I and with are WR WATCH US GO. If we stay with the same offensive it will be just like this year every one knows were the ball is going.Princeton sat jumped our pass plays and the running plays. because they knew the plays. Will someone please tell me why yale runs to the short side of the field all the time. One other idea please put Jordan Stevens back at defensive line coach Reno was wrong when he made the switch. Harvard is playing much better the last few weeks if we run the the same offensive next sat we will be in trouble.

Gentlemen; to criticize a defensive scheme assumes there is one and I for one did not see one against the run.our defensive coordinator has been successful against the cantabs I sincerely hope the streak continues.

You want Defensive results..? WRAP YOUR ARMS AND LEGS AROUND THE BALL CARRIER. IF YOU CAN’T DO THAT. HOLD ON THE BEST THAT YOU CAN UNTIL HELP ARRIVES.!!!!!
THE WORST FUNDAMENTAL LACKING TEAM EVER SEEN.!!!!
YOu DO THAT NEXT WEEK AND YOUR TOAST.!!
EADDY had 266 yds on ya.!! Shameful
