Yale 34 Lehigh 0

Another positive improvement, Now the real test starts.?!! Dartmouth is far and away the best team Yale has faced this season. They will have to be on point with every aspect on Saturday. Go Bulldogs.!!

Yale couldn’t have played much better against Lehigh. Pass defense, run defense, rushing game and passing game were all superb. Clay Peterson gets my vote for the game ball with an outstanding performance. The only areas where there remained some issues was special teams (a couple of fumbled punts and a missed PAT) and penalties ( but that too showed substantial improvement over last week).

Every week Yale has gotten better. But that journey must continue in order to beat a very good Dartmouth team on their homecoming weekend. Key to victory will be the defense. They need to stop Dartmouth’s dual threat QB’s from running the football. That will put extra pressure on the secondary and they will have to step up to the plate with their best performance of the season. Yale has the talent to win. It’s all about preparation and execution. Roll Dogs!

Meant Clay Patterson. Plus Dartmouth’s best defender Jalen Mackie is suspended in the first half for targeting in Friday’s game against Penn. Yale’s offense needs to take advantage of this by striking early and often.

While Yale has definitely improved week to week, 3rd down conversions remain a problem. Improvement in this area will be a must the next two weeks.

Yale needs a leader, OConner is to tentative. Seems to shy away from contact. He also has a terrible non follow through.. Grooms is feisty and in my opinion a better leader.
Offensive line needs to be able to open holes for running backs. Grooms will be better with a rolling pocket to throw.
Linebackers looked really good as well,
Dline Patterson is and animal.!! Gonna need all to play at his level. To make the DB’s job easier.
Dartmouth is gonna be tough, keep Rouse outta punt returns. Keep him on the sidelines. Still like to see him as a DB very talented. Clean up those penalties still to much.

I don’t mean not to use him, utilize him as A Wes Welker slot receiver, situational running back.

No doubt, Grooms is an excellent Ivy League QB. However, with decent protection (which we may not be able to produce), O’C could be magnificent. It all comes down to the guards and center. We’re done if they can’t protect AND pry open some holes for Dudek et al before the game gets out of reach.
On defense, we need Oso back ASAP.
We should not derive a great deal of comfort from yesterday’s game.

Lehigh is awful. Five games into the season, they still have not scored a touchdown. Read that sentence again.
Yale’s play improved this week, but the caliber of opposition probably had more to do with that than anything else. Caliber of opposition won’t be so lacking for the next couple of road games.

Yale 23, Navy 19.

Who else was there?? I was.
Navy jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, scoring one each: TD, PAT, FG, Safety. I thought to myself, “This Yale team is good, but maybe scheduling this game was a bridge too far.” Fortunately, the Bulldogs settled in and found their rhythm. Rogan, Grieve, Diana, Leone, et al., what a team, what a time to be a Yale fan.

I watched it on ABC Tv. Al Michael’s and Ara Parseghian called the game. One of the best Yale games I’ve ever ever watched. I wish Yale would post the game on YouTube in its entirety, along with the 2014 Army game. If anyone has this game on video and is reading this Please, please please post it to YouTube.

I was there great game , SOE I agree that game and other games should be available to watch.
I was also there at Princeton, when Yale got stoned by Bob Holly.

I will go to my grave still begging Carm to give the ball to Diana on 4th and 2 at the Princeton 20 with 2 minutes to go and Yale up 31-28.

A first down would have clinched the game.

I’m still waiting for an undefeated season. Unfinished business from that great 1981 Yale team.

Just realized: another October 3 anniversary: Yale @ Hawaii, 10/3/1987 (34 years ago today).

I was there as well. Got home the Friday night before the next game against W&M severely jet lagged, but wasn’t going to miss the game.

One of a series of last minute wins for the 1987 team, 40-34

Me as well, with my Dad and my Grandfather. What a great time. Not so much for Yale football. But enjoyable time laid over in St. Louis, had 6 hour lay over. Went to Bryant’s BBQ. Also met Bud Wilkerson.

I was fortunate enough to attend the Hawaii game, as well. Had a wonderful time – except for a few hours in Aloha Stadium (score-related). I got a chuckle out of some of the locals, entering the stadium during pre-game warmups, jokingly saying, “hey look, we’re playing Penn State tonight!”
While the outcome of that game was far less than ideal, I do feel that the trip was a great bonding experience for the team, and contributed to the grit and determination they exhibited in the winning streak they went on after that game, including many cardiac-comeback victories. (If only that streak could have extended one game longer…)

He was a true gentleman, he had hands like brick, when he shook your hand it would take a minute to get the blood flow back in to it.

Yes. I wrote Coach Cozza a letter when I was a kid and he had the graciousness to take the time to answer me. I saved that letter for years. I last spoke to him in 2016 outside the Yale Bowl. Still showing the same graciousness he sincerely thanked me for being a Yale fan. He was a true gentleman.

I was there. Grew up five blocks from the Bowl, my dad was Prof. Robert Abelson of the Psych Dep’t and he made me a big sports/Eli fan. By ’81 I was away at Bard College but came home for that weekend and boy, am I glad we went to the Navy game.
Wish I had been at Army 2014…
