Running Backs Coach and talented recruiter, Derrick Lett, has decided to depart Yale and bring his skills to Jonesboro, Arkansas as Wide Receivers Coach for the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Alan Lamar will also be transferring to Arkansas State where he will have two years of eligibility remaining. Best of luck to Coach Lett and Alan in Jonesboro and thanks for the memories in the Bowl!

As if the excitement for the 2021 season wasn’t enough, we now have another barnburner on the schedule: Yale at UCONN on October 16th.

Foye Oluokun continues to thrive for the Atlanta Falcons with 109 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 3 sacks, and 2 interceptions (one from Mahomes) on the season. Jaeden Graham has notched 3 receptions for the Falcons, while Dieter Eiselen made his first NFL appearance for the Chicago Bears in Week 9.

What a disappointment the Tulsa Mississippi State football game was. The chippiness was never ending. Yielding to game ending brawl. The whole game should be disbanded and forfeited.. horrible horrible sportsmanship.

What has happened to our recruiting? We started fast in terms of both quality and quantity. Both seem to have tailed off. What gives? Haven’t seen any names in weeks and, the last time I looked we’d fallen to third in the 247 sweepstakes, which we discount if we’re not #1.
Come back, Mr. Lett.

Yale recruit Zane Minors looked very good this afternoon in Austin Westlake’s 24-21 upset of Galena Park North Shore, the top-rated TX high school team and no. 2 ranked team nationally (for what that’s worth). Westlake junior QB Cade Klubnik, Reid’s younger brother, rallied Westlake to the win and scored the winning TD on fourth down from a yard out after Minors had set up the play with a 10 yard burst.

North Shore had won 29 games in a row and back-to-back state titles in the highest classification level of TX HS football. The team is loaded with D1 recruits, with seniors headed to Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M. But Klubnik and Minors found a way to win.

Westlake will play for the championship next Saturday night at Jerry’s World.

Texan Eli:
Maybe you can get Cade Klubnik to see the light and follow Reid. While you’re at it, perhaps you can find out what’s up with our recruiting.
Cheers,
L et V

Zane Minors looked good tonight as his Austin Westlake team won the state title, beating South Lake Carroll 52-34. Minors broke off a 75 yard TD run as part of a night in which he gained about 150 yards.

The MVP was Case Klubnik who outclasses the South Lake QB, who’s an OH State Commit. Oh, if only Cade would follow Reid to New Haven.

Coach Reno install the Kansas City offense now. We have the lineman we have TE WR RB and possible a very good QB.Get it done. other teams will jump at this offense be the first. What a great offense fun to watch. Anyone think this will happen.

Zane Minors has great potential in the Ivy League! We are fortunate to have him! Why he doesn’t have stars from 247 is anybody’s guess. 137 yards on 12 carries and a TD in the championship of the highest rated conference in TX (6A)? You tell me! Zane, if you are listening, Yale will be a great fit for you, You will have a great college football career and and a wonderful college experience, as well!

Will John Dean remain Team Captain. How many are we losing because of graduation. What will the depth chart possibly look like. These are the questions I would like to know. Who will take over at rb with Lamar gone

WILL SEAN GUYTON ( DB) BE ATTENDING YALE FOR THE 2021 SEASON ? HE IS DOING A 5 th YEAR AT CHOATE.

I feel like I’m stranded on a island. Come on get some stories going, give some updates.!! Has to be something going on.
Other than that, I trust everyone is well. Anticipating A Yale Football Season. Like no other.!!

I share your frustration, JH. The athletic bureaucracy continues to proliferate while meaningful communication with fans and alums shrinks. Not the way to run a railroad. But just the way to run a university.

What do they do all day, with no teams playing? Why can’t they spend some time communicating with alumni and fans?

COULD THE LACK OF RECRUTING BY YALE BE OWING TO A DEARTH OF ROOM AT THE INN FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR STARTING IN THE AUTUMN OF 2021 ?

Yale has had average of 100 to 112 players, I was talking to one of the coaches last week and they have over that . So Ray, you may very well have a valid point.

Wonder if we are beginning to see the after effects on recruitment after Coach Derrick Lett’s departure.

How about some good news. Covid or not, our Ivy brethren have many more commits than we do. We miss you Derrick.
Does national signing day have any relevance these days?

Wednesday, 2/3, is National Signing Day. Do we care?
Does anyone have any answers for anything?

Bear in mind that in Texas there are many football divisions and each division has an “all-state” team. That said, Warncke looks good.

Young man plays with tenacity and a motor that doesn’t stop. Walker is a fine addition to this class.

WALKER WARNCKE : STATISTICS- 2020

1,866 YDS ; 271 CARRIES– 6.9 YDS ; 155.5 YDS PER GAME ; 33 TDS– 32 RUSHING

OK , any chance we could update the commit list. Maybe give some Bulldog news.? On a more consistent basis. Please

IT APPEARS FROM FROM DIFFERENT TWITTER ACCOUNTS YALE IS NOW FOCUSING RECRUITING FOR THE 2022 CLASS OF PLAYERS.
I HAVE BEEN FREQUENTLY CHECKING ON 2 D LINEMEN THAT YALE HAS RECENTLY OFFERED. HOWEVER, THERE HAS BEEN NO FURTHER INFO CONCERNING THEM.

Hi Ray,, hope all is well. Would you be able to divulge who the 2 football prospects are.? Descriptions and location , names of said players.? Thank you

NO NAMES .

D LINEMEN :

6′ 8″‘ , 240 LBS. MANY PWOS FROM BIG 10 COUNTRY

6 ‘ 2” , 260 LBS. 4.6 40 : MANY PWOS FROM SOUTHWWEST REGION

Getting either of these dudes (especially 6′ 8″) would be great, Getting both would be fabulous.

6’8″ would concern me, especially when you add 60+ lbs to that frame. It seems to me that 6’6″ + is much more injury prone in football

Jack Michalik, DB New BrunswickHS Greenwich, Ct. from Steve Bowley , New Haven Register. That’s all I could find. On this young man.?

Bring on Mr. 6′ 8.” He’s the second coming of Ted Hedricks (one inch taller, actually), aka “The Stork.” He’d be our highest ranked recruit, and, I’m guessing, all Ivy by his junior year if he wanted it. Unfortunately, he seems to have been discovered.

Why can’t The Ivy League start by the 2nd week of September. Add and 11th game with a built in bye week.?
No post season, but at the very least add another a game. To the schedule..? It would in fact send a jolt into the League. Show case what these coaches and players can, and could do..!!

Hey JH,
I love your enthusiasm for Yale football and share your disappointment in the lack of information. In case you follow other Yale sports, the Yale sports website has an article on the very talented FY class for baseball. I don’t know what these means for other spring sports, lacrosse, etc., but maybe it is hopeful that there will be some version of spring sports.

JOSEPH NASH WAS THE RECRUIT WHOM I WAS REFERRING TO, HE IS A YALE COMMIT. HE IS 6 ‘ 2″‘ , 265 LBS. HE HAS RUN A 4.6 IN THE 40 YD DASH.
HE HAD PWO OFFERS FROM : ARKANSAS STATE, U TEXAS SAN ANTONIO, TCU, SMU, AND OLE MISS..HE WAS HEAVILY RECRUITED BY THE YALE STAFF. THEY INCLUDED COACHES RENO, McGOWAN, AND DL COACH STEVENS.
THE OTHER RECRUIT I DISCUSSED IS ARISTOTLE TAYLOR . HE IS A D/E FROM BROTHER RICE IN THE DETROIT AREA.. VANDERBILT MADE A LATE OFFER FOR HIM. HE HAS PWO OFFERS FROM, :ND., STANFORD , MICHIGAN AND MICHIGAN STATE. HE IS HIGHLY SOUGHT BY YALE.

Thank you very much Bulldog Fan, Ray, Joesph “Must Smash” Nash. Keep the guy as a running back. For short yardage and goal line runs. .?!! I was hoping to watch lacrosse matches. This year.? Sigh..!!

THE HOLY CROSS RECRUIT mENTIONED is AUSTIN UKE. — OT. HE IS 6 ; 4 ” AND 275 LBS.. HOWEVER, STANFORD SWOOPED IN LATE AND HE COMMTED TO THE CARDINAL.

Joshua Williams a 6′ 2″ 265lb two star DT from Gonzaga is DC is the offeree we lost to Holy Cross.

Someone from the Classics Dept. with a light touch and a sense of humor (if such a person exists) should assist with the recruitment of Aristotle. SERIOUSLY. In any event, he must not go to H or P.

Aritotle yale is not listed in is recruiting page. Will go big time get a free ride somewhere good luck to him

Hmm, curious.? On his Twitter page ,Yale is included in his top 6 choices. ND, Michigan, Stanford as a PWO Eastern Michigan, Yale, and Dartmouth. As of 1/25

Very happy as well SOE, the thing is . Yale had all that. Yale should be and elite FBS program . Good that Yale, is able to play UConn. But Yale should strive to play higher end FBS programs. Mercer is playing Alabama and Auburn on a regular basis. No I am not saying Yale should . But Rice, TCU, Duke, Service Academies , Northwestern, Rutgers Ect.

Add Vanderbilt to that list. Reno’s brother in now their assistant strength and condition coach. And former Yale football alum Bart Simmons is also in their staff. I predict we’ll see a Yale-Vanderbilt game in the years ahead.

And Vanderbilt is one of the few teams That have a winning record against Yale with a 1-0-1 record. With a win Yale could drop them from that list leaving I believe only Georgia and Boston College as the only schools with winning records against Yale.

Here’s something for this hopeful upcoming season. October 2, 2021 Yale will be in Macon, Ga. to play Mercer.
I would like to participate in that weekend. Home of the Allman Brothers Band

J.H. I TOTALLY AGREE. IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THE YALE A.D. HAVE SOME ONIONS AND START SCHEDULING AN 11th GAME. SHE MAY INITIALLY TAKE SOME HEAT ,
.BUT SHE MUST PERSIST.

At the very least Ray.. A 11th game would breath some life into the old Bowl. If your not going to participate in the playoffs . Start the season 2 weeks earlier. Have a built in bye week to rest and heal up. Start schedule higher tier teams . It’s time to upgrade and stop repeating this culture of BS.!!! Be who you are, instead of what your past was. Have some ONIONS, dag nabbit.!!

I agree, and that would mean more than just one or two games played in nice weather. An annual game against a tough FBS opponent, and a yearly one against a local D-2, would be excellent. I know playing UNH and SCSU wouldn’t draw the way some might dream it would, but at least it’d be more exciting than yet another Lehigh or Lafayette affair.

The service academies are problematic due to their bowl eligibility nonsense, but we should play them if and when it’s ever possible.
