Yale Ranked in Top 25

The 9-1 Bulldogs were ranked 24th and 25th respectively by the FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Final Top 25.

Kurt Rawlings was a late edition to the East-West Shrine Bowl and will be playing for the West. Check out this interview with Kurt from yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD_phz1-V3o

The Shrine Bowl will air on the NFL Network on Saturday at 3 PM ET.

Rawlings isn’t the only Bulldog who will be playing in front of fans and scouts on Saturday. Dieter Eiselen was selected to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and will play at the historic Rose Bowl. That game will air after the Shrine Bowl at 7 PM ET on the NFL Network.

Looking forward to next season without Rawlings, Shohfi and Klubnik, I’ve given some thought to where we may see some talent infusion that was not on the field for the historic Harvard win. Here are five players who could really help:
1. J.J. Howland. Massive tight end who hurt his knee last year who some say is a legitimate pro prospect.
2. Joshua McKenzie. Top rb/db recruit from a year ago who spent the year rehabbing his knee. Coaches rave about his potential
3. Noah Pope. LB who flashed great potential as a freshmen but suffered serious concussion last year. If fully recovered could help solve our perimeter problems.
4. Jacob Hinish. OL and former starter who suffered broken hand last year. Tough kid who coaches think will fill the void of graduating seniors.
5. Nathan Puletasi. DL. Much touted Air Force tramnsfer who spent the year at Choate. Will he be on the squad?

Another big factor…….will Zane Dudek be 100% recovered and benefit from an offensive scheme that will allow the team to take advantage of his immense talents.
Let’s have some fun here….somebody take a crack at a two deep lineup on both offense and defense.

PATRICK NAURET IS THE TRANSFER FROM THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY. .NATHAN PULETASI SHOULD BE ON THE 2020 ROSTER.

this is my fantasy line up!

1st
qb: griffen
wr: carrington
wr: sandifer
rb: dudek
rb: josh eboboko
te: D. Major Roman
lt: gargiulo
lg: twyford
c: josh de saint jean
rg: hinish
rt: warfield

Second:
qb: nolan grooms
wr: mason tipton
wr: joey felton
rb: joshue mckenzie
rb: spencer alston
te: jj howland
lt: jonathan mendoza
lg: schuller
c: adam rain
rg: conner haverson
rt: babcock

Also Tipton and Howland could be on first team and just a guess with Adam Rain at center Go Blue

Yes, thanks many for projected 2-deep on O. Exciting and reassuring to see skill guys — if we have any kind of OL we’ll be in good shape.

Q, will Ajay Culhane be the P/K next year or will the job be wide open between him and a frosh or two?

OSU is nice place. Some kids wanna play Big time ball. They want to play in front of a crowd. Not 3,000 people.

Hawk196, Don’t forget you’re dealing with 17 and 18 year olds. They’ll kick themselves in the butt. When they get into their 30’s.

Check out H and P 2020 recruits. Somehow they are competing rather successfully against nice places, big time ball and crowds in excess of a cozy 3,000. Why not us? Seems to me we’ve got something to sell.

gentlemen; mr. tipton should be at the head of the class especially in view of his performance in the cantab contest. mr. grooms is a really sleeper at the signal caller position. our blue squad needs desperately a run stopping middle linebacker maybe there is one hidden on the squad otherwise remaining recruiting should focus on this position.

For run stopping middle linebackers one can look to frosh #56 Mikey Connor standing at 6’0 but weighing in the low 230’s as a frosh. This spring will be huge for Connor with lifting weights. Dean, Awodiran, and Blake hill all have proved themselves as valuable in stopping the run, however yale does have solid alternative should those 3 fail to deliver

Nobody’s said it in so many words, but Yale 2020 features the best crop of offensive linemen we’ve had in ages, and my trips to the Bowl began in the first half of the preceding century. As we will learn again soon, you can’t have too many of these dudes. At the moment we’re understocked, and we can’t expect guys who arrive freshman year weighing less than 250 to become what’s now required in the trenches.

My son is a perfect example of someone who was 6’3″ and 250lbs their freshman year. Sophomore year 285lbs and 300lbs jr & snr year. Started the last 3 games sophomore year and started as a jnr & snr. Toughness and heart are important. Look at the distance from the top of your index finger to the 1st knuckle, that is 1 inch. I bet some of the other Ivy schools that passed are regretting their decision. Also, look at the HS programs the players come out of….he played in the big north (NJ), one of the toughest leagues in the country and played against Nick Bosa, Rashawn Gary and some other highly ranked players.

I agree with comment supporting Grooms – he is impressive. O’Conner is no slouch either, having won Ivy rookie of the year after only three starts (and he lost two of them).

Looks like Yale’s bc cupboard is half full.
Any news on any 5th year or transfers.coming too or back.

Here’s my take and I think Yale is loaded

DL is where there appears to be quite a bit of dependency on new names that have little or zero playing time e.g Nauert, Raine, Bruno. So this part of the defense will remain an unknown factor until the season starts. Rest of defense is very experienced so hopefully tackling and pass coverage will be improved.
Offense should be pretty potent again and agree that both Griffen and Nolan will perform well at quarterback. RB talent is of course strong with Zane, and a number of backups. Don’t know yet whether the optimism is justified on the freshmen RBs who were suppose to have had some impact last season, since they never got a chance to play. We will definitely miss the outstanding talent of JP and Reed but Tipton looks like he can be the valuable go to guy we will need at WR. Look for the versatile Rouse to be used at WR again. He can be a game changer so I hope the coaches try to find ways to get the ball in his hands often this coming season. OL seems to have some quality players that will replace the ones that are graduating but there is some inexperience here that may take a couple of games before it becomes as dependable as last season’s line, especially at center. Special teams kicking was of course what contributed a great deal to Yale’s success last season. This is a crucial area that is also an unknown.

gentlemen; mr. hawk aka mr.cepalia regretfully I was critical of your son’s deliveries in the tiger contest of 2017 which improved obviously with hard work and determination. during his senior year at guard he was part of the glue that kept the line together and should have reached the level of all ivy distinction. on another score it will be difficult to replace mr. mathaei at defensive tackle another example of improvement from his sophomore year.

Thank you old blue! He doesn’t get sacks or TDs, but as a father of lineman(I have one at Tufts as well), Toughness is what makes me proud. I never wanted to use injuries as an excuse, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going. You probably didn’t know it but he was 2 games removed from a high ankle sprain(3-4 week injury) and calf injury that he suffered at Brown. When Tribble went down against Harvard he played 3+ quarters of inspired football….every play was excruciating pain. Back on the bench teammates and coaches couldn’t believe he could get back up and go out for another series, but he did it and was part of “The Game” and won his 2nd Ivy league championship in his 4 years at Yale!

This fall recent bottom feeders Cornell and Brown will be much much stronger, making the league that much more competitive for all.

There won’t be any substantive recruiting updates until the incoming recruits submit their matriculation letters in a couple of months. There is always some last minute poaching activity, as well as additions and subtractions. Like it or not our staff waits until the end to publicly release the incoming class.
You can get an early status report at spring Reno roadshows.

What is going on with recruiting ? Other teams are done some have over 30 recruits we are far behind in numbers that we should have. We had a great year this should not be happing . Some thing is going on in side yale football that may be hurting recruiting.Anyone know whats going on. Harvard vs yale weekend in basketball is huge in recruiting . Its getting late get the job done coach Reno.

Don’t we already have 30 recruits? If not, how many more do we need?
This panic over how far we are behind is getting to me. It seems we go through this every year. At what point do we begin to trust a coach who has been so successful?

YALE FOOTBALL RECRUIT :

JACK KARHU , 6 ‘ 4 ” , 250 LBS. T/E , ( DT ) ? INDEPENDENCE H.S. , FRISCO , TX.. WEIGHT LIFTER .

His “never say die” elusiveness reminds me of the god-like BD. How many times was Jordan sacked last season? Why no 247 stars??

247 stars are usually dependent on pre senior achievements. It appears Mr. Jordan didn’t get a chance to take takeover the qb position until this past season (as a senior) which was impressive not only in terms of stats but as can be seen from his high light reels he showed elusiveness and a powerful arm. It certainly looks like he can throw on the run with accuracy and for distance. Let’s hope Yale got another hidden gem.

Dartmouth Is hosting New Haven to open their season. Any chance this could be a precursor to maybe showing up on a future Yale schedule? I think it would be very exciting for the New Haven area if this game happened!!!

YALE RECRUIT:
CHASE NENAD , WR , 6 ‘ , 3 ” , 205 LBS. MISSION VIEJO H.S. , MISSION VIEJO , CA. 3 *** .

OFFERED BY :
UNLV , TOLEDO , AIR FORCE , ARMY , LOUISIANA – MONROE . COLUMBIA , HARVARD , PRINCETON , PENN. , MIDDLE TENN. STATE

After watching his films, think this WR will see the field for us next season as lead team to TX state championship in highest division in TX…not sure how we got him as saw several offers from other smaller D1 and Ivy programs as perhaps Westlake connection with Reed K
